There are plenty of rigid Christian sects that believe in faith-healing alone, and have been prosecuted for denying medical attention to their children. It’s been in the news plenty of times. We had a long thread on this incident when it happened - [WTF? Pay Up or We Let Your House Burn Down? - The BBQ Pit - Straight Dope Message Board](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=580852) Peoples’ opinions are unlikely to change at this point, but it’s worth reminding folks that this house was outside the firefighter’s jurisdiction, the guy had been reminded each year that he needed to pay or he wouldn’t get coverage, he had a fire on his property 3 years previously and was given a free ride, and the fire department came out to make sure no people were in danger. ---
