> The Farmer and the Viper is one of Aesop's Fables, numbered 176 in the Perry Index. It has the moral that kindness to evil will be met by betrayal and is the source of the idiom "to nourish a viper in one's bosom". The fable is not to be confused with The Snake and the Farmer, which looks back to a situation when friendship was possible between the two.

Not only that, but “Ebira” is the name of the giant kaiju shrimp (It’s not really a lobster) that Godzilla fought in **Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster** (though usually spelled “Ebirah”)

Are we sure that the article has been properly vetted? Because having someone named “Ebira Mosura” doing something is a bit like finding someone with the name “Dracula Frankenstein” .

Bonus Fun Fact – that movie not only has Godzilla and Ebirah, but also Mothra in it “Ebira Mosura” sounds like 2/3 of the kaiju cast. The guy doesn’t have a middle initial “G”, doe he?

I might be mis-remembering, but in Japan doesn’t insect enthusiast have connotations of an uncool, nerdy subculture? Similar to stamp collector in the US.

Philosopher Masahiro Morioka defines herbivore men as "kind and gen Ac...

It’s not. The video starts off with his giving his name, Kuro something. 黒 kuro means black, and is a common component of a last name, such as the film director Akira Kurosawa 黒澤.

> [@CalMeacham](#):
>
> Are we sure that the article has been properly vetted? Because having someone named “Ebira Mosura” doing something is a bit like finding someone with the name “Dracula Frankenstein” .

It looks like fake news to me.

Checking online, there are other similar videos of removing parasites from Asian giant hornets スズメバチ suzumebachi. Here is another one:

[![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/9njh6olmHk0/maxresdefault.jpg "スズメバチのお尻から寄生虫を引きずり出した結果...") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9njh6olmHk0)

This guy keeps them in a glass cage and goes through the process a bit more, including showing how one of them was not moving very much. He said that the type of hornet he keeps is less aggressive than other varieties.

I suspect that this video was from a similar hobbyist and then someone made up the story line from there. Sloppy journalism.

> [@Pleonast](#):
>
> I might be mis-remembering, but in Japan doesn’t insect enthusiast have connotations of an uncool, nerdy subculture? Similar to stamp collector in the US.

Mmmm. Not sure. Japanese kids love to collect [kabutomushi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_rhinoceros_beetle) (カブトムシ) Japanese rhinoceros beetle, Japanese horned beetle.

[![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/66/Kabutomushi-JapaneseBeetle-July2004.jpg) ](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/66/Kabutomushi-JapaneseBeetle-July2004.jpg)

So it’s more common than stamp collecting. My kids had some for a while, but they do tend to die regularly. After the kids got older, they had better luck with a dwarf hamster.

</div>

Not a whoosh, but a wild unsubstantiated guess this may have been the term @Pleonast heard about concerning nerds. On second thought, you are probably right, insects \<-\> grass, let alone eating grass, is not an obvious connection (except in the case of insects which do just that, which is why I even thought of it).

Eating grass has some bad connotations in western culture too.

> [@Daniel 4:33 (KJV)](#):

> The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.
