You know her? They took her two crutches and made a cross out of 'em and stuck it next to the road. Kinda freaked out all the motorists for awhile. ---

Back in high school there was a dead possum that had gotten hit by a car near my school. The disturbing thing was that it died frozen in this horrible pose, its legs out stiffly and its face contorted in this disgusting expression of agony, jaws wide open and tongue lolling out. The thing was there for weeks; the city never sent someone to scrape it up and it rotted on the curb for a month. ---

Let’s see… Hit a dog, head on (late at night - black dog in a VERY rural area). I think it was eating roadkill itself - I didn’t see it until it looked up at the last second and its eyes reflected the headlights… Had a deer run into ME late one night. I was going about fifty, it jumped into the road and hit the front quarterpanel of my truck And… when I was living in North Carolina, in a rather swampy area, the road would be covered with hundreds of frogs - usually I’d hit about fifty at a time. Pretty impossible to miss them when they cover the road like that. Hit a neighbors dog at two in the morning - the dog was a chaser, and they never tied him up. I heard him hit, but when I got out to look he was gone. About a week later I saw him in his yard, apparently no worse for wear… but he never chased ME again (at least when I was driving that car) ---

Haven’t hit a LIVE roo, but we did run over a dead one. Well, my mum did. She thought the car would clear it; once she was two metres away she realised it wouldn’t but it was too late. The muffler was totally wrecked, full of skin, hair and bone. Crossing the Nullabor we saw lots of dead wombats. They must have been hit by semis because they are the size of BOULDERS. Fair dinkum. You’d seriously cause yourself some injury if you hit them with an ordinary car. And **LeeJam** , can I be picky and point out that its **K** arratha? 😃 ---

I don’t drive, so I don’t get to personally damage the local fauna (well, I could tread on ants, or something, but it’s just not the same). But I work some way out in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside, and it gives me ample opportunity to observe the wildlife as the bus trundles past, and over, it. Strangely still badgers, motionless foxes, inert rabbits, the obligatory two-dimensional hedgehogs, I get to see the lot. A cheery sight on a dull morning, I must say. This week, there’s been a deer just before the Tubney roundabout. I’m not sure what species of deer, and it’s been there all week now, so I don’t think I want to take too close a look at it… ---

I remember the first time I hit a racoon (luckily, the only time, knock on wood). I felt like crap, but I just clipped it with the side of my car. No damage, and driving by an hour later, it was gone, so I like to think I just stunned it and it woke up and got away. That, or some poor family had a nice meal for once. Recently, I’ve gotten into the habit of hitting birds. Not running over then, but actually running into them. It’s not intentional, by any means, I hate the thought of harming any animal in anyway aside from pesty insects that just won’t get the hint. But twice so far it’s happened where I’m driving along, and suddenly, a bird comes flying out from off to the side and then **SWOOSH** , it nose dives infront of my car and the next thing I know I’m watching a tuft of feathers follow behind my car.
