My neighbor takes care of a bunch of cats…well, he gets them ‘fixed’ and feeds them, but that’s about it. He gave a couple of kittens to a friend, and she took them to vet who discovered that they have mange. Apparently, ALL the cats have it. My questions are:

1. What’s the cheapest way to get rid of it? We call PetMeds, and they said there are two different kinds; can we figure out which one these cats have?

2. My dogs are friendly with a couple of the cats, and go up to them to sniff them; can they contract this?

3. Is it true that humans can contract it from the cats?

There are more than two types of mange, a vet must do a skin scrape to determine which kind and how to treat it. Some types are contagious, some types aren’t.
