per cnn: The prosecution team has entered the courtroom. rc: it is getting close to 4:30pm eastern, this is the usually stopping bit. i guess they will check with the jury to see if they want to go long. per msnbc: trump and the judge are in the courtroom as well. the jury will be excused at 4:30 today according to the judge. cnn has deliberations at 11+ hours, msnbc at 9+. ---

I wouldn’t worry yet about the duration of the deliberation, the jury has got a shitload of evidence to go through. ---

going long is good, since having to sit in the courtroom not talking might be the only punishment he ever gets. ---

If there’s one thing that we can learn from the OJ Simpson trial, it’s that a jury coming back quickly is not necessarily a good thing, irrespective of the evidence presented. The jury in that case came back after 4 hours. Judge Ito delayed reading the verdict until the next day. ---

The jury asked for readback of instructions and testimony around the exact things the prosecution wanted them to focus on. They listened carefully, affirmed that the judge had fulfilled their requests adequately and got back to work. This was a longish case, a somewhat complicated case and certainly an historic, important case. For a jury to abide by their oath and take their time to make sure of their verdict is all we could ever hope for. Whatever verdict they render, I think they will have done their civic duty – and then some. ---

per cnn: Donald Trump is saying “Thank you” to the court staff in the well and pointing to them. Trump’s demeanor is perhaps the most relaxed it’s been inside the courtroom since jury selection, as he’s leaning back chatting with attorney Todd Blanche and thanking various staff. Trump and Blanche have been chatting on and off for the past few minutes, with both of them smiling and laughing at points. A couple times when he and Blanche stopped talking, Trump would reach out and lightly swat Blanche’s arm to get his attention and then they’d start talking again. ---

I’d rather have your cat as President. More to the point: apologies if this has been asked/answered, but do all 34 counts stand or fall as a unit? That is, if he’s convicted on some and acquitted — or the jury is hung — on others, do all 34 have to be retried? Or do the convictions stand (subject to appeal)? ---

per cnn: Judge Juan Merchan said “Please let there be no reactions, no outbursts of any kind” when they read the verdict Trump was leaning back in his chair when the judge took the bench. He kept a straight face when the judge announced there was a verdict. Trump just leaned over to talk to Bove.
