If he continues to rant publicly that the trial was rigged, I imagine an interviewer would be dubious about any apologia during a private pre-sentencing interview. ---

Yeah, they will. You just have to be a dick about it and know that when the disappear off in a huff, that they’ve accepted it. Merchan: Mr Trump, you must release your tax returns, as you promised to do for the American people in 2016. MAGA: That’s not fair because Nancy Pelosi didn’t, either! You: Trump said that he was going to do it. Pelosi never said she would. Every president since Nixon did it, including everyone that Trump ran against. No House Majority leader has ever done it. Trump went into the White House saying that he was going to Drain the Swamp and he never once proposed anything like a law saying that people needed to show their tax returns to run for office. Neither did Pelosi but, again, she never said that she was going to drain the swamp nor show her return. All you’re telling me is that he’s equal to her in everything that matters but, unlike her, he lies about it more. Woohoo? MAGA: F\*\*\* you man. You: You already f’ed yourself. Trump’s people may well be lying about the amount raised–both to keep Donald happy and to try to implant the idea that _The American People Are Rising Up In Outrage At What Has Been Done To Our Hero_. Of course any donations received are likely to come only from the MAGA base–who were going to vote for him anyway. What matters about the verdict, from the point of view of the November election results, is how it affects non-base people. Does it make them more or less likely to get out and vote? And if they do get out, are they now more or less likely to vote for Trump? Bottom line: the Trumpite talk about $53 million dollars is meaningless. ---

Adding to your post, I read a couple articles indicating some wealthy donors (the MyPillow guy-type) have suggested they threw-in $300K to $5M. If true, then that greatly diminishes the sheer number of donors, substantially. Whatever helps to fluff their sails. ---
