For one, by filing a civil suit you open yourself up to “discovery”, which is evidence gathering. This includes answering written questions under oath (called interrogatories), having to admit or deny certain facts (called requests for admissions), produce requested documents (requests for production), and sit for depositions. Sure, he doesn’t necessarily need to answer every question posed - he can take the 5th. But he is subjecting himself to grilling, under oath, by even more attorneys. ---
