This type of delay insulates the case on appeal from some sort of later claim of prejudice, while also ensuring that the case isn’t languishing without some action. (And, for what it’s worth, there was no talk of dismissing the indictment against my client. The _remedy_ for newly produced evidence is _more time_). If the judge postponed the Trump case to mid April, he is going to expect _significant progress_ on the issue. Meaning, the parties better be ready to reset the trial, or have some tangible explanation for why they need yet more time before that happens. At this pace, I predict the trial starts in June (unless this judge gets caught in the trap of requiring _written briefs_ followed by _scheduled hearings_ on every issue the defense can conceivably file). ---

AFAIK, the recent delays are due to the Justice Department not having yet turned over prosecution-requested documents. And the feds will not be in the courtroom. My guess is that there are many cases around the country where local prosecutors request federal data and documents. Some may be murder cases. If so, and if the same Justice Department office processes those requests as processes this one, that could explain some delays. Trump’s attorneys want delays. Bragg’s people planned a low-delay-potential case with some possibility of conviction this year, but cannot prevent all sources of delay on their side. I presume that the defense looks through those tens of thousands of pages for inconsistencies to make issues over, and that the prosecution needs the same time to make sure they aren’t blind-sided. Then, not having seen these 100,000, and counting, documents, a lot of this is, on my part, guessing. ---

In many cases, and I expect Donald’s is no different, the defense is looking for a Hail Mary when they get a document dump. In reality, their client is indeed guilty, and there’s no smoking gun that will undermine the case. But hope springs eternal. And the longer you delay (in any shit case), the more likely your slim hopes for something, anything (a witness dies!) might arise. But if there was truly something substantive in there to help donald, I’d have to think that his team would already have it, or be aware of it. ---

I think they were first requested in Jan 2024 and said turn them over in 30/X days. DOJ (or whatever specific dept) said we’d appreciate more time, is that ok? Trump said that’s fine. That ask for extension/that’s ok response probably happened a couple times. Now the documents have been turned over. That’s how I understand it. We can guess at the reasons why the DOJ needed more time (possibly Barr DOJ shenanigans related to when Cohen was charged, etc.). We know that Trump didn’t mind the extensions. ---

DA Bragg is getting tired of the delays, as are we all. things are not going well in the criminal vote. the defence lawyers are trying for prosecution misconduct. the judge is getting quite frustrated with defence, and is very skeptical of the defence argument. trump thus far is behaving himself. the court is in recess until noon. ---

court is back. the judge has ruled that the trial will start on april 15th. the judge has rejected the 90 day request by the defence team, and rejected the prosecutional misconduct argument. there may be trial dates that may be impacted by passover. the trial is expected to last 6ish weeks. ---

Plus April 22 is Earth Day, followed by a full moon and Administrative Professionals’ Day. I think there is no reasonable alternative to postponing things until mid-late November, at which time there will be no conflicts. /s ---

It will be interesting to see what happens in or after November if Trump succeeds in delaying everything because of the election but then fails to win the election. I don’t think the courts are going to regard “I should be President right now but you took it away from me!” as any kind of compelling argument so Trump might be doing himself quite the disservice with all these delays. ---
