Not even 5 acres? Seems a bit close to neighboring riff-raff… How big a staff must one have to maintain such a place? You start dusting at one end and before you get to the other, you need to start over again! Plus, yeah, 11 toilets??? I’ll pass. ---

I drive past this house regularly. You can’t really seen much from the street. There was construction there. I notice Zillow says it was bought for $20M last year. I can’t see them getting $32M now. The neighborhood is not pedestrian friendly, but the speed bumps do slow down vehicular traffic. Close enough to the freeway to get highway noise. There’s film and tv crews at various properties along San Raphael often enough that it’s not remarkable. ---

One of the problems with a house like this is that it’s notoriously difficult today to find permanent service staff. Nobody wants to do it. You might get a sort of butler and maybe even a cook or chef, but not much else. Up until the mid-20th century at the latest, there was an entire class of people dedicated to service for the aristocracy and the even moderately wealthy. Everyone not themselves in the servant class had at least one servant. But no longer. Anyway, this looks like a nice old place from the 20s and I’d grab it. If you don’t have $32 mil, don’t worry – you can pre-qualify for a mortgage. It’s only $208,270/mo. ---

As I’ve mentioned in a couple other places, I just finished a cruise on a small ship. Small enough that you quickly recognized every crewmember who interacted with the customers. One was a middle aged Filipino man with a formal manner who went by “Alfred”. I couldn’t ask him for anything without thinking of the _Batman_ TV series and one scene or another between Adam West and Alan Napier. ---

Either you’re expected to host grand parties and need enough facilities to meet the needs of your many guests, or the place is so big that it’s too much trouble to walk to the other end of the house to reach a toilet. ---
