I recently added some extra RAM to my laptop, and as a result the hibernation file has become too large to have around. I no longer have access to the ‘disable hibernation’ button, having removed Toshiba’s power saver thing because I never used it. The installation CDs are in ‘a safe place’, and we all know what that means. :smack:
Is there any simple way of getting rid of the file? I’d guess that it’s possible to alter the registry, but no way am I messing with that unless I know exactly what I’m doing.
You should still have Start, Settings, Control Panel, Power Options. Under the Hibernate tab make sure “Enable hibernation” isn’t checked. I think when you uncheck this box the hiberfil.sys goes away.
It doesn’t work and it never has done. Clicking on it results in the following message: “To adjust power management settings, close Microsoft Windows Power Options and use TOSHIBA Power Saver.”
As far as I know, I have no ‘point and click’ way of disabling hibernation.
Well, there are 2 more avenues you could follow. One is to go to Toshiba’s web site and see if you could find the Toshiba Power Saver app and reinstall it. Turn the Hibernation off, then you should be able to uninstall the Power Saver app again. This site looks likely: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modItemList.jsp?moid=1073769836&ct=DL
The other avenue is to reboot Windows in Safe Mode and see if you can then delete hiberfil.sys. If you can, it might still get recreated when you reboot, but maybe not. Worth a try.
