How do I indicate to Mapquest that I want to take a ferry instead of driving around Puget Sound or taking the bridge from Seattle? I know I can go to Anacortes, drive down to the Keystone ferry and take it to Port Townsend, and then drive down to Elma or Hoquiam or wherever. But what if I didn’t know I could do that? Suppose I wanted to go someplace where I knew there was ferry service, but didn’t know the way? (I mean, aside from putting the information into my GPS.)

You could use [Google Maps](http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Seattle,+WA&daddr=Bainbridge+Island,+WA&geocode=&hl=en&mra=ls&dirflg=r&ttype=dep&date=04%2F24%2F10&time=11:25pm&noexp=0&noal=0&sort=&sll=47.634396,-122.369156&sspn=0.199424,0.617294&ie=UTF8&ll=47.616347,-122.343063&spn=0.199493,0.617294&z=11&start=1) instead and click on the “public transit” option.

That’s not an available option for me.

Not that it matters in my example since I know the way. But it might be more difficult if I didn’t. For example, suppose I wanted to go from Bellingham to Nanaimo and didn’t know the way. (I do.) Choosing the public transportation option gets the same message.

I don’t see anything indicating Mapquest or Yahoo Maps doing anything with ferries, so Google seems to be the only place. [Here’s a list of their participating public transit operations](http://www.google.com/intl/en/landing/transit/#mdy). I guess it’s just a matter of Google not having all of the ferry data, just data from whoever provides it.
