Not having read the whole thread, the sexuality police are going to descend in full force. On a more serious note, my old pastor, an Episcopal priest, relocated with his family to Nashville a few years ago, and his wife posted on Facebook that they considered sending their 3 youngest children (they have 7 total; that’s not a typo) to that school. They know one of the pastors there; he wasn’t injured, not physically anyway. [Here’s the latest info from the Tennesseean](https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/crime/2023/03/27/nashville-school-shooting-latest-updates-covenant-school-suspect/70053691007/?csp=chromepush) I keep reading bits and pieces of this and I’m just… I am so angry. And what scares me is that he had apparently targeted another school before this but decided the security was too tight. Could this have been at my eldest’s HS? Or my youngest’s middle school? Or the elementary school my kids had once gone to that is less than a mile from my home? They aren’t releasing it yet so I have no way of knowing. But the thought that he COULD have chosen a place where my kids, my teachers-friends, were is enough to give me nightmares tonight. Parents should never have to worry about this. Kids should never have to worry about. No one should have to worry about this. ---

He was a transgender man who used male pronouns, according to police. Authorities initially identified him as a woman. The article links video footage of the shooter entering the school by shooting out a door, and says body cam footage from the police will be released soon. The police were shot at before they killed the shooter. Most of the rest of of local interest (when vigils are scheduled, what local events have been cancelled, comments from various locals.) ---

We’ve had so many mass shootings it’s hard to find one that stands out, but this one is notable. It’s a school inside a church, and (apparently) a trans man which is statistically all sorts of unlikely but there you go. Are we going with he/him/his pronouns from this point forward for the shooter? I’ve noted that this morning’s CNN stories seem to be avoiding pronouns. ---

Who gives a shit. The person is dead and is a murderer. How they perferred to be addressed is no longer relevant. The coroner’s report will describe the deceased as female. ---

I spoke with my dad late last night – Dad is very much anti-trans, insistent on referring to everyone by the gender on their original birth certificate, and he was adamant that the news stories all had it wrong – this was not a woman shooter, _he_ was a MAN shooter. I’m pretty sure Dad was not defending the shooter’s pronouns of choice, but expressing his belief of their “real” gender. When more info comes out, I suspect he’ll reverse himself and become irritated when everybody refers to the shooter as a man or he/him. ---
