(Unfortunately I was unable to vote in most of the rounds and I’m not particularly happy with these final four, but might as well try and make my late round preferences count.)
Nah, I think John needed something in the middle, so he asked for a little McCartney fragment to fill the void. But there was nothing really collaborative about it. JMHO, however.
Plus, as much as I like Paul, that would’ve been a better song without Paul’s contribution.
Wow, if you asked me to pick the Top 50 Beatles songs ever, “Help!” would never even be a runner-up consideration to include on that list. It’s not (IMHO) even in the top half of the best songs on the Help! album. How in the world did it make the Top 2? The March Madness idea was one that intrigued me enough I was thinking of doing something similar with other topics/artists/media, but if it manages to yield results like this, I think I’m fine not having my curiosity satiated.
Isn’t this what it’s all about though? If you knew what would advance through each round, why do it? Sure, I could’ve said ‘Okay, these are the four best Beatles songs ever written; now vote which is the best,’ it might’ve had more predictable, and boring, results. But why do that? Is the Madness tourney perfect? No, seedings can be questioned. But this-- just like the basketball-- is all about the upsets, and comebacks, and close calls, and diaper dandies and all that jazz.
No sir, I think this was a fascinating study, and I’m not even saying that cuz I did it.
