Oh! Yes, that’s her. She made quite the splash. 🙂

A great saying, but I doubt he thought it up himself. Still, whoever did write it had the correct idea, and I’m sure they explained the meaning to the kid.

The nationwide actions really do warm my heart and make me think the tide has turned against the gun filth.

> CNN commentator and former Pennsylvania GOP Sen. Rick Santorum on Sunday suggested students protesting for gun control legislation would be better served by taking CPR classes and preparing for active shooter scenarios.

Jerk says kids should learn CPR, not try to make new laws.

It’s not generally a good idea to insult a bunch of voters, is the first thing; the kids who can’t vote yet will be able to _soon_. Next, considering this guy’s public record, he’s just insulted a bunch of highly motivated people _who are much smarter than he is_. Last, it’s clear to everyone that these kids are not “looking to someone else to solve their problem”. Let’s see how this works out for Mr. Santorum; I doubt he can sink much lower than he did when his last name also became a noun.

> Santorum’s comments prompted a statement from Everytown for Gun Safety program manager Erica Lafferty, whose mother was shot and killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
>
> The statement read: “Rick Santorum’s words are an insult to the kids of Parkland, my family and to the countless others who have had loved ones taken by gun violence. My mother was killed while protecting her students at Sandy Hook School. For anyone to suggest that the solution to gun violence is for kids to learn CPR is outrageous, and indicative of the NRA’s desire to do or say anything except strengthen America’s weak gun laws.”

We watched some of the coverage today from the Washington march as well as some other places. I have to say that I was impressed by the Parkland students who are leading this effort. David Hogg and the other students who have been out in front in this effort are well-spoken and able to be quite calm even when speaking before really big crowds. Personally, I was nervous in school when I had to deliver a presentation, even if it was only for the students in my classroom.

That is wholly emblematic of what rotten scum the Republican Party is comprised of.

You said it.

I watched coverage of the local march and lo and behold, one of the two main kid’s faces up front was a girl I used to have in Sunday School. I saw her this morning before church and complimented her on her actions.

How helpful is CPR when someone is bleeding out from multiple gunshot wounds?

It gives you something to do while the shooter is drawing a bead on you.

The interesting thing about these kids’ movement is that other idiot politicians are getting ensnared by their own stupid comments – it was an instant career-ender for this guy:
Republican candidate Leslie Gibson has dropped out of the race for Maine’s House of Representatives following backlash from controversial comments he made about two student survivors of the Parkland, Florida, school shooting … The Maine candidate drew outrage after posting insulting tweets about two Parkland students – Emma González and David Hogg – in light of their national gun control efforts.

I was at the Philly one, or rather it was in front of the hotel where we were.

In terms of what this rally was about, it’s amazing how many guns were there of cops; probably hundreds of officers, dozens of bike patrol officers, & SWAT armored vehicles, & guys on rooftops. Sad commentary.

> It occurs to me that I should mention what went on today.
>
> We started in the parking lot for the Smith Center for the Performing Arts. There was a small (and low) stage and a pair of PA speakers hanging from Genie towers; the person at the microphone was clearly audible even at the other end of the parking lot. There was a lot of rallying (call & response type stuff) and then they made sure that students were up front and we set off to Las Vegas City Hall. Short march, less than a mile I’d reckon so only took about 20-25 minutes for the main group to arrive at city hall. They had a couple of video walls set up and a stage with a lectern and seating risers behind for students. The speakers were mostly all great. A young lady from here in Las Vegas who was one of the early speakers was especially eloquent, her delivery both composed and fiery. She spoke much longer than most others did but the crowd was right there with her every step of the way; if I’d have caught her name I’d wager that it would pop up again in the news within the next decade.
>
> A few videos and a bunch of speakers, mostly all students at local high schools. In fact, in the first 90 minutes, the only adults were Dina Titus (local congresswoman) and woman who is a domestic violence survivor and victim’s advocate and a lady named Stephanie who is a Mandalay massacre survivor. The other dozen or so speakers were all students.
>
> I left shortly after noon and I’d say about ⅓ of the crowd had already started to drift away by then, but overall it was a well-attended, orderly and very moving event. I’m glad I went.

You were there, too, Bo? Funny, I didn’t see you!

I thought it was probably the best organized march I’ve ever been to. Bo didn’t mention the stacks of free bottled water and the numerous porta-potties at both ends. Very well done in almost every respect.

One of the reporters at the Washington, DC rally mentioned that after the event was over, it had all been cleaned up. Unlike previous events organized by adults.

To be fair, the kids weren’t responsible for _all_ of the organizational details. I saw one of the Parkland teens interviewed and he said that they worked with people like those behind the Women’s March for things like securing the rally permits. I assume one of these outside groups helped with other logistical details, like securing porta-a-potties and arranging for the cleanup.
