March of the Rantoneers (March mini-rants)

So so sorry
A swift euthanasia is really the kindest outcome for Fargo.
Preferably BEFORE he eats someone’s face off.

 That is good to know!

Thank you, that’s so generous of you.

We went to the pediatrician today for a three year check up and to get a referral for an autism evaluation (one of the four waiting lists we’re on requires it.)

Instead of our regular doctor we met with a PA. The guy turned out to be really knowledgeable about autism, he said his older brother was nonverbal. He was like, “You need to start therapy as soon as possible. Here’s your referral for eval, here’s your referral to OT, PT, and speech therapy. Here’s a referral to a neurologist. Call me if you need anything.” He spent about an hour with us asking some pretty good questions. He reassured us that our kid is still growing physically with no signs of malnourishment so his feeding issues are not something to worry about right now. He said we’re doing everything right.

He’s not really qualified to make this determination, but he did say he thinks given our son’s apparent intelligence and demeanor he will probably thrive with the right support. He thinks he will be able to be mainstreamed in education.

The guy had a lot of opinions and was kind of paternalistic and it was a bit overwhelming but it really beat having to convince someone we need help. To just be taken seriously was so nice.

On the other hand, the idea of scheduling and coordinating all these weekly appointments with a full time job is just exhausting. I was pretty nonfunctional today trying to absorb it all. I just moped about on Reddit.

I absolutely love that you are not in denial, its THE most important first step. I seriously cannot overstate how important acceptance is.

I am leaning very heavily towards your child being on the spectrum from what youve described too. Obviously i cant diagnose them, but definitely prepare yourself for the diagnosis.

My coworker has called in sad again, so amnat work then have another doctors appointment of my own. Ill write more when i have time.

If there is a message function on this site, feel free to message me and ill give you my email address so i can help you in the future with specific things for your child

It’s probably little consolation right now, but the beginning is the hardest part. Once you get a schedule set up and can get into a routine, it should seem less overwhelming.

Thieves out of NY were prowling our neighborhood last night. Woke up to cops at the door.
They got my daughter’s catalytic converter.
The cop pointed to the marks the floor jack left on the pavement.

Argh!

I feel you on this. It was hard to get started with everything when daughter was first getting started. We do her therapies through school, which helped immensely. But getting started it the hard part. Once you find your groove, you will jive.

Rant of the day - CVS is just generally terrible. My doctor has to keep re-sending prescriptions to them because they keep losing them. I finally have a prescription for omeprazole waiting for me after a couple tries. It shouldn’t be this hard. I’m glad it wasn’t something too important though.

Goddamn cardinal is persistently rapping on my living room window, harassing his phantom competition. And his moll is hanging around, enabling his stupid aggression.

GO away! There are lots of better places to nest, birdbrains.

My sympathies! About all you can do today though is set up cameras on your house to film the street… and to call the police should anything happen.

Charles Bronson is dead and buried… as are his movies.

My own home video camera system is a work in progress. Neighbor across the street has it in their doorbell cam and they know what make and color the bad guys’ car is. Not really any use though–these guys pull up with a jack and angle grinder or torch and are done within 3 minutes and on to their next street before the cops have a chance to get there.

It’s most likely that even if I had good cameras set up, all the camera would show would be a car with unreadable plate and some guys in hoodies working like a pit crew.

After installing dash cams in my cars I realized that even with a dash cam in normal driving, it is almost impossible to read a plate from anywhere but a few feet directly in front, so in cases like these surveillance cameras are more about documenting what happened for insurance and less about catching the perpetrators.

Just had a couple interesting phone calls. First with my GP’s office, I need to set up an apt. Fine. But I mentioned that probably it should wait a bit longer because I hadn’t been taking the new dosage very long. Uh, the assistant girl said, new dosage? There’s no record of any change in your meds.

I’d noticed one batch of pills looked a bit different when I picked up that refill, and checked the paper printouts. Same drug, but now 850 vs. 500 mg. I just shrugged, the doc tinkers with my meds frequently. But, apparently this time it was the pharmacist screwing up. Whoopsy! So I have to go get the right (older) dosage of pills, plus answer concerned questions from the assistant, then again from the doctor about ten minutes later, and then from the pharmacist fifteen minutes after that, who apologized over and over and kept saying things like, But you feel okay?

So now I need extra extra blood work to see if three weeks of the wrong dosage had any important effect. It’s a minimum one hour round trip drive even if there’s no backlog at the lab, It took them three sticks to draw blood last time.

(I feel perfectly fine as it happens.)

“I don’t know, Mr. Gower, I’m feelin’ a tetch of the vapors…”

I had that problem with Omeprazole and Walgreens. I finally got tired of it and started getting it from Amazon. Even without the discount from insurance I’m paying the same price and I have no problem getting it. (I have to take it every day for a rare medical condition.)

I’m imagining a Catholic priest trying to rap battle people right outside your house. That would definitely get annoying after a while.

My mini rant today… I had bought a pillow from Amazon that sucked. I requested a refund and promptly returned it via the UPS store. They issued me my money, all good.

More than a month later out of the blue I get an email that since it never arrived, I’m getting charged again (about $50). WTF?! I sent it back, they received notification that it was sent back via UPS, how the fuck is that my problem?

The rant continues! They are obsessed with 90 days supplies. Which irks me to no end with some things. But with omeprazole, I would not be mad. So why did I only get a 30 day supply this time? WHY!!!

I just want to treat my GERD please.

Sneak brag. . . . .:smirk:

I was just thinking about how mundane my ailments are. I was packing my meds for a trip to Africa, and I thought "Every single one of these are for boring Guy Getting Old conditions… maybe I’ll relabel one bottle “Vestronidase Alfa: for Sly Syndrome”.

(Real condition, aka Mucopolysaccharidosis VII)

Sorry, @Atamasama … I know I’m having fun*, which I’m sure your condition isn’t.

On topic, I changed insurance, and the only close “In Program” pharmacy is closed Sat and Sun, evenings, AND 1:30-2 for the pharmacist’s lunch. And yes, I’ve run out of sleep meds on a Friday after 5.

*“Making Light of Serious Stuff in the Pit” is part of my job description here.

Technically it’s to prevent GERD, which isn’t a big deal, but GERD can trigger my EoE which has caused my esophagus to close up. Once it forced me to go to the hospital for an endoscopy (or I would have died).

But no offense at all, if I take my medicine and I’m not an idiot about what I eat I can stave it off. You definitely have it a lot worse!

(And my EoE is definitely a “guy getting old” condition; I had Asthma since I was 2, and I finally grew out of it after about 35 years, except it turned into EoE.)

I was supposed to get my pay today, I worked a shift(4 hours) week and a half ago. Uts not there. I restart monday, but wont get paid til the 7th. I only have enough money to bus to and from work next week, not the week after. No rent money. My church friend is buying me dish wash liquid because I cant afford to.

SuntanLotion, I hope you get paid soonest.

I retired on 1 Jan 2023. I’m not getting social security until I’m 70.

Fine, except I still haven’t received any pension yet. Whoopsie!

Last year I worked with TIAA/CREF to come up with a retirement plan that did not put me into the traditional but unmodifiable way of getting money. We came up with that plan and have filled in paperwork - lots and lots of paperwork. Every time we finished, I think we’re done, but of course, there is always something not done right or something else that needs to be done. At any rate, I just finished the last corrected form and hope that I’ll have an income starting in April.

I thought retirement was meant to be fun and relaxing. But between this and pharmaceutical issues, my A1C has been soaring. Boo!

I should’ve been irritated but I was more amused when I got back from the vet after picking up Felimazole for my cat. He needs a little round pink pill twice a day for his thyroid hypo hyper icrc. Anyway it’s supposed to be a bottle of 100. $18 and change.

I open the bag at home and pull out a slim blue Rx bottle with one freaking pill inside! Oh ffs people! So ridiculous of a mistake. Yes the scrip reads Quantity:1. As in one bottle. I call them they say bring it back, I do but after I nap first. Then still in my slippers and ratty hoodie I drive back to the vet and turn it over. I think it made their day it was such a joke error.

So the vet tech apologizes, I wave it off meh. She returns with a bottle and assured me, since it was opened by unknown who took out one pill, that she counted the pills to make sure there are :100: inside.

This cat will outlive me I think.
