Marco Rubio presidential campaign discussion thread.

To the best of my knowledge, a male politician has never had to run an ad where he sets the record straight on his status as a warlock.

I read in the NYT that Rubio and Cruz just need to crack 20% in most states, and Donald can win all of them but still not bank a huge lead.

The only chance to stop Trump is for Cruz and Kasich to get out, but why should they when each of them will finish 2nd in some states? Rubio is just not the obvious 2nd choice in terms of the actual polling.

Chris Christie endorses Donald Trump for President, describing Rubio as “desperate and unfit.” I’m surprised, so let me repeat that:
Chris Christie endorses Donald Trump for President
I don’t know if Fatso’s opinion will actually help The Donald, but it is a relief seeing one of the sanest of the GOP’s 17 clowns agree with Dopers that a Rubio Presidency would be an Abomination.

Rubio goes into full childish neener-neener mode:

Ug. You’d think if Rubio was going to go down this path, he could’ve at least had his campaign hire writers to come up with some funnier insults.

I swear, when I saw this performance on TV it took a few moments for it to sink in that it wasn’t some comedian doing a sketch – it was the actual Marco Rubio running for president (of the seventh-grade class, apparently).

It can’t really come as much of a surprise, can it? Rubio had nothing to lose, his campaign was sinking like stone. Now he is the center of attention. If I were his advisor, I’d tell to do the same thing. If Cruz takes the high road (which he won’t), he is doomed also.

Yeah, I’m not getting what’s with all the fainting couches. This seems like a legitimately good strategy. It might not work, in fact it probably won’t be enough, but it has a shot–and that’s more than you can say for just going along as before.

To be fair, he did get off a good zinger when he responded to a heckler by “introducing” him to the crowd: “Ladies and gentlemen, the valedictorian of Trump University!”

If Rubio is using Trump-like insults to insult Trump, then the center of attention in that story is…still Trump.

Plus I don’t think there’s really any way to beat Trump in a race to the bottom. Rubio tried to grab the spotlight by using crude insults, and Trump grabbed it right back by playing footsie with the Klan. As low as Rubio is willing to go to get media attention, I think its pretty clear that Trump will go lower.

I’m very disappointed with this turn of events. I thought Trump and Cruz (who I’ve liked for a long time, except for his views on abortion) would set the stage and then an adult, Rubio, would end up with the nomination. I have my problems with him, but I thought I’d end up there. But given his performance in the last debate, I don’t think i can go there. I’ve never been a back fan of Katich, but he might be the only viable candidate standing. I’ve grown to really not like Cruz. i think he’s super-smart and I generally like his view on the Constitution, but he’s going off more and more like a parody of a sleazy used-car salesman.

One other interesting thing is that I’ve found myself rooting for Trump more now than I was. I mean, if the cheap and sleazy attacks by Rubio and Cruz are the worst things about TRUMP that they could come up with, that’s a feather in his cap. Leaning toward Katich right now, writing off Cruz and Rubio, and leaving the door amor for Trump, depending on how he handles things from here on out.

One more thing, I’m kinda shocked that Sleazy Cruz has resorted to Reid like tactics concerning Trump’s tax returns. Unbelievable.

Kasich is trailing Trump even in Ohio.

The chickens of the Southern Strategery have come home to roost. The tribalist peanut gallery demands red meat, and will no longer accept the pink slime dished out by the “respectable” party leaders.

I’m embarrassed for this country. :smack:

Well, there’s at least one business that would be stimulated by a Trump victory…

So if Trump uses Trump-like insults to insult Rubio, then the center of attention in that story is…Rubio?

The center of attention is the person with the camera on them, and since Rubio started insulting Trump, there has been a lot more Rubio on TV. Advantage Rubio.

What’s the old saying? Give people a choice between a genuine Trump and a Rubio in Trump clothing, they’ll vote for the real Trump every time.

The lunatics have taken over the asylum. It makes me think Trump might grab that nomination and say “F” you to the GOP he just destroyed and come back with his own party. He’s got Schultz (Christie) so its not over until a few more defectors goose steps their way to Trump Towers.

I thought it was going to be the paper bag business. One for every American’s head!
