# Mardi Gras in Mobile, AL

Has anyone ever been to Mardi Gras in Mobile, AL (where Mardi Gras supposedly began in the US)? I am thinking of heading down there this weekend with some friends. My fear is that (being in Alabama) it’s liable to be some watered-down “family-oriented” festival. :rolleyes: Does anyone have the skinny on this event?

When I went 10 years ago, it was just a parade; nothing special. It was not a party. It could have changed.

I am from Mobile (lived there 21 years), so maybe I can help. While I have never been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans I know that it is more of a party there. If you go to New Orleans for a wild time, then you will have fun. If you go to Mobile, don’t expect to see women lift their shirts up. At least I have never experienced that. Mobile has Mardi Gras balls just like New Orleans…the have fat tuesday…bars…vendors…moon pies…  
I have always had fun, so try it. If not, New Orleans isn’t too far of a drive.
