Is the Richard Thompson song, [Mother Knows Best](http://www.richardthompson-music.com/song_o_matic.asp?id=183) about Margaret Thatcher? I had always suspected so, but I never knew for sure. Anybody here know? ---

Yeah. Unfortunately she was Prime Minister of the **UK** , and no-one but England voted for her. So, in recognition of this, she pursued policies that suited England alone (or more particularly Southern England), and tested out the controversial stuff in the parts of the UK that didn’t vote for her. “I’m an English nationalist, and don’t you forget it” Kind of like a combined pay-back and painful lesson in why Thatcher knows best.
