Did she put you through those dreadful "OMG _Where is she?"_ moments, because my kitty was so tiny----at seven pounds, her heaviest weight----that she could hide anywhere. I kept forgetting to look up. It wasn’t just the top of the oak buffet, it was on top _of the curtain rods_ on t_op of cupboards_, on top of _doors_, it was _under_ the cupboards, too, where I could have sworn there was _no_ space. She crawled under every blanket and turned herself into a purring little croissant. She did that bubble-purr that kittens do, all her life. She also liked to crawl _inside_ my jacket, and then she’d do that Sphinx stretch, with her paws stretched all the way out in front of her, as if she were thousands of years old, made of thousands of tons of granite, and worshipped like Bast herself. Babygirl was just as tiny, but timorous and meek, hiding in cupboards, curling up in a tortie ball behind me, purring so loud you could hear her in the next room. I think one of the things we mourn is all the little things we _meant_ to do, the photos we’ll never take, the little holes that only scar over. It’s just an animal, right? God, I need to switch to decaf. All my kitties have been old or sick or injured in some way, all dumped or discarded, and all have been outrageously affectionate and I swear, grateful. Losing Babygirl hit me especially hard because she was the second of three kitties who were dumped on me the same summer, and both she and her “brother” died suddenly, horribly unexpectedly, and way too early. The only one left is a grumpy old guy with one incisor left, a hoarse squawk of a voice, and too many scars to count. I think he was used as a bait animal. The vet said the broken teeth she had to pull were still bleeding. I need to win the lottery. I’d pay to spay or neuter and treat all the pets and not pets. Anyhoooo… ---

My cat Ziggy died unexpectedly last year from heart failure. He was only 4. He was my little buddy and I miss him so much. I’m sorry your cat died and I’m more sorry this thread is filled with juvenile pricks. ---

It looks Baby had high blood pressure (the dilated eyes in the last pic), which would account for the detached retinas. It’s common at the end stage of renal failure. I hope you know there wasn’t anything you could’ve done. I’d never heard that about feral kitties, but that makes a lot of sense. She didn’t have the best beginning which sadly makes for a shorter life. When you’re ready, you’ll find another furball who needs you to add to your family. She or he won’t replace the ones you’ve lost but will be a good distraction and give you some optimism. Your three kitties’ legacies will be that another little life will have a loving home. ---
