Bad parenting, lack of supervision, the sexualization of minors, wearing inappropriate clothes or having older boyfriends are all bad things that should stop immediately. Talking about them in a thread about the rape of an 11 year old girls is just plain stupid. No matter how many times you claim to that pointing out those bad things isn’t blaming the victim, it’s way too close for comfort and does, in fact, lessen the blame that goes on the perpetrators. Feel free to condemn those societal problems in your very own thread, but stop being idiots and doing it in a rape thread. ---

I love\* rape threads on the Dope because they get all the resident troglodytes to show their asses, and there’s always a few of them who surprise you. It started with a thread about whether statutory rape should be a strict liability crime (i.e. whether the rapist should be excused if the victim showed him a fake ID). In the course of the debate, it was literally claimed that an 11 year old could pass for a 21 year old and fool an adult male. I was pitted for basically saying that was impossible. ---
