When looking at something else on YouTube, I noticed that Marie Osmond has passed out on some show, _Dancing with the Stars_. ([Video clip](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyBWNdg-zwY)) Since I don’t get American TV, I have no idea what the show is about, and am not particularly interested in a summary, but I was surprised to see that Marie was still around. Growing up as a Mormon, in the 70s there was pressure from the church leaders to like them, since they are Mormon, but good god, no 13 year old boy liked them or could admit to liking them. Then they had that silly Donny and Marie Show and I lost track of them. I looked her up on Wiki and was surprised to see she was a country singer. Do people like her? ---

According to [allmusic.com](http://allmusic.com), she hasn’t had an album since 1988, last single in 1990. Since then she’s toured in musicals and had a TV talk show in 1998 with her brother, for two seasons. There are no musical accomplishments listed since then. So sure, some people like her. I don’t know any of them personally. The more pertinent question would be, does anybody remember her? Her fifteen minutes were up awhile ago. ---

_Dancing With The Stars_ is one of those shows with the misnomer title - because it should be _Dancing With The D-List Has-Beens_. ---

I don’t follow her career, but I recall reading some news story a year or two ago where her husband was quoted as saying something along the lines of ‘she is/was more interested in her career that in her family’. I guess she’s trying to get out of the house and restart her career. ---

Didn’t she leave the Mormon church? I vaguely remember her face on a tabloid or two years ago with a headline to that effect. Can’t be bothered (afterall, it is Marie Osmond) to look it up. ---

According to someone on Dancing with the Stars, she’s in the process of making a new album. She’s also touring with her brothers, singing, in between performances on Dancing with the Stars. ---

I think she went public with depression or some other issues (post-partum, maybe, after all those kids?) in recent years. This was supposed to be of interest since it belied her smiley image. Dancing with the Stars is novelty/has-been celebrities/athletes paired up with professional ballroom dancers and one is eliminated each week. ---

Sure, people like her. She’s bubbly and nice. The Donny & Marie variety show was a bit of kitsch and innocence in the midst of a really cynical time (Vietnam war, Nixon) in our history. She’s one of the few child stars who actually grew up to be kind of normal. “DWTS” is a great show IMO but the appeal has little to do with the “stars” and more to do with seeing how non-dancers can handle dances. I’d be just as entertained with 10 people they pulled off the street. ---

[/QUOTE] Well, except a little show-biz savoir faire doesn’t go amiss – look how much further John Ratzenberger went than Mark Cuban, despite similar aptitudes. John R. had enough performing savvy to be able to endear himself to us anyway. [/ot] Re: Marie Osmond – she’s always been more or less around – hasn’t been hugely active since her TV heyday, but never completely disappears. ---

Y’all take cynical detachment to a whole new level. I’ve been in minor-league love with Marie since I was 6, and I’d still like to give her a ride around the block. I even had the Donny and Marie lunchbox. ---

Her face has settled after some pretty frightening plastic surgery. And five of those eight kids are adopted. ---

This is the first season I’ve watched and have been told that this isn’t even the best batch of dancing. If you have high speed internet you can watch whole episodes at [abc.com](http://abc.com). Very good and entertaining program. Dispite ABC seeding the audience with distracting crap like Julie from Desperate Housewives, Momma Brady and god help me, the Cavemen… ---

Every 13 year old boy I knew lusted after Marie. ---
