I don’t know if this is where this question belongs, but this seemed like a good place to start. I’ve only been on this BB for a few days, but I’m impressed by the level of discourse, wit, good spelling, and appropriate use of italics. Have any marriages or long-term relationships happened between (or among, in the case of Fundamentalist LDS-ers) the posters here? Just curious. ---

Not only have there been marriages (at least a dozen or so, I’d guess) between Dopers who would otherwise have never met, but there have been a number of babies born to Doper parents who would otherwise never have met. ---

Hi and welcome to the boards. Thank you for distinguishing between between and among. But before I decide if you’re worth listening to, I must ask: serial comma? BTW, won’t the OP get more traction/attention in MPSIMS? It’s not mundane, and it is related to the message board, but seems less involved in rules or functionality. ---

Someone needs to create an up-to-date list of Doper marriages (and maybe long-time relationships that are still going on). That thread is from 2004. This should also include an up-to-date list of Doper babies. ---

I’ve gone around and around with people on this, and if I’m editing someone else’s work, which I do quite often, and they are violently opposed, I won’t put one in. But yeah. I do it. In front of God and everybody. Don’t hate me for it. Give me a chance. Hmmm… this might be the right place to bring up one of my new ideas: Lets abolish all apostrophes and commas. This would be a better world without them. We worry over them and what do they give us in return? Clarity? Hardly. If one doesnt know how to use them they make a person feel stupid and inadequate (although most people who dont know how to use them dont seem to give a rats ass) and if you do know how to use them you are always on edge braced to see them being abused. No more tensing up over “it’s” v. “its.” In the case of “you’re” v. “your” all that I would have to be annoyed about is the spelling. Apostrophes and commas use up ink and give nothing back but anxiety insecurity and surges in stomach acid. I say out with them! ---

Let’s not forget the countless relationships - boyfriend/girlfriend, mother/son, etc. - that have been improved because of the Dope. People come here to ask for perspective (“Am I being an ass about this?”), advice (“What should I tell X about Y?”), referees (when the Mr. and Mrs. disagree about [stuff](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=564685)), and just to be plain old talked down off a ledge (most of the Pit), and I think the end result is that somewhere out there, in some house on some street, two people have their relationship strengthened. Makes me all sniffly and teary-eyed just thinking about it. \ - Warms the cockles of your hear, don’t it? - Oh yeah, my cockles are burnin’. \ ---

I am now married to another doper, [m.j.](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/member.php) - to be fair, I introduced her to the board. That said, it means a ton to me that she posts and reads here, because I love that I can share discussions with her about all the awesome stuff I read and learn here. She takes an active interest in my life, and its one of the many things I love about her. 🙂 ---
