> My reaction to these types of threads is always, “Why?” Unless there are some underlying issues within a couple, I don’t see any benefits from maintaining multiple independent financial accounts, rather than fewer joint accounts.

And I would ask why bother to get joint accounts and credit cards.

 When my Wife and I got married, we each owned a house and had established credit histories. Didn’t see any point at all in getting a joint account.

I guess we live fairly simply. We do drive good cars, and take nice vacations. There has never been an argument or issue about money. We discuss major purchases like a car or home renovation. For other things it’s just not needed. I buy what I need, my wife buys what she needs. Food and household stuff just gets pretty naturally split.

We sold her house. ‘My’ house is ours and I have quit claimed it to joint ownership with her. Paid it off a few years ago. Heck, we bought property together before we where married.

It works just fine.
