If you’re not familiar with contemporary Scottish cuisine, at least as eaten by real Scottish people, then it is probably exemplified by the deep fried mars bar (I think it’s called a milky way in the US). Mars have remained silent about this until now, but the fish and chip shop owner has tried to apply for an EU protected status which would basically say it would have to be made in Scotland. However, it is not to be. Mars’s response: “We are really flattered that customers of Carron Fish Bar like our product so much that it has now become a flagship product for the store. No application for a protected geographical indication has been filed to date. They make freakin’ candy bars and say they promote an “active and healthy lifestyle”? Give me a break here. ---

Actually they were fairly nice about it. They only asked for a small disclaimer on the menu and a sign in the shop. ---

Hershey’s dark chocolate is the Special Dark and is only dark chocolate with nothing else. Kit Kat and Skor are two totally, completely different candy bars. I have to say the “promote a healthy, active lifestyle” line made me giggle. Deep fried candy bars sounds like a county fair food to this American. ---
