As the title says, another odd comics question that I’ve been mildly curious about.

“Unaided” meaning “using their own demonstrated powers/abilities, or whatever gadgets they would normally have at their disposal or on their person,” but _not_ using actual spacecraft.

Characters who can teleport the distance also count. So would jumping really high, technically, I guess.

Marvel “2099,” Ultimate universe, etc. count, if noted.

While _DC_ examples are easy enough to come by, I’m having more difficulty with Marvel’s. The only one off the top of my head that I’m certain of would be Silver Surfer—assuming you don’t count his board as a “spacecraft.” (I’m…_barely_ willing to give it a pass. Maybe it’s the small size and lack of any seats.)

So…'anyone have any suggestions, and a minute to kill?

Now, you said “fly,” but I interpret that as “reach the moon.” I guess any character that can fly could fly to the moon, if they could survive space travel (exit/re-entry), which you didn’t list as a criterion. They could always wear protective gear, but that may violate your “unaided” edict.

My initial thoughts:

Mister fantastic could presumably reach to the moon and pull himself there. But he starts feeling pain after stretching 1500 ft (presumably he can [stretch farther](http://marvelcomics.answers.wikia.com/wiki/How_far_can_mr._fantastic_stretch)). Not sure he could survive in space.

The Hulk is powerful enough to jump into space, though it appears he [can’t quite make it to the moon.](http://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/42677/how-high-can-the-hulk-jump)

Magneto could possibly pull himself to the moon (not sure how distant the influence of his magnetism is, or if the metals on the moon are abundant enough to allow him to do so).

Galactus.

Iron Man could propel himself to the moon.

I don’t know, that’s all I got.

Sentry could.

Iron Man, of course. Also, various characters who are derived from him, like War Machine.

Hulk’s gotten a lot more powerful since the page posted, and could almost certainly jump all the way.

Since Nightcrawler’s almost certainly been there (the X-Men have had dealings with the Inhumans, and I’m fairly confident that has included visiting the Blue Area), he could teleport there without issue.

Doctor Strange does interplanetary (and even interstellar) travel under his own power. Time travel, too.

Have they screwed with his powers? According to [the X-Men wiki](http://x-men.wikia.com/wiki/Nightcrawler),

> [@](#):
>
> The longer the distance over which Nightcrawler teleports himself, the harder and more exhausting it is for him to make the teleportation “jump”. It is easier for him to teleport between north and south (along Earth’s magnetic field lines) than it is for him to teleport between east and west (against the magnetic lines). Under optimal conditions, teleporting only himself and his costume, Nightcrawler can displace himself a distance of about 2 miles east-to-west, and up to 3 miles north-to-south. Making a vertical teleportation upwards is difficult and dangerous. Nightcrawler has made a vertical teleportation “jump” of 2 miles by pushing himself to his physical limits.

In the first Brood story I read (this would have been in the early 90s, but it might have been in an issue of Classic X-Men), Kurt teleported from space to Earth (or maybe the other way around…I just remember it was a long jump), and his only issue was not really knowing his intended landing area.

I can’t say about Captain Marvel or Captain Marvel. But I recall an issue of _Avengers_ when Captain Marvel (the Carol Danvers version) was using the name Warbird. She tried to fly to the moon but passed out in the attempt. Of course, that was several writers and a few names ago, and I haven’t kept up with comics in a long while. She may have better powers now.

In the movies, at least, War Machine definitely can’t. He’s wearing the Mk. 2 suit, the one that iced up when it went too high (before Stark fixed that problem by going to the gold-titanium alloy).

For Stark himself, it probably depends on the suit’s life support capabilities. The power supply and propulsion would definitely suffice, and he’s got to have at least limited air capabilities, but has he ever been shown to stay in the suit for days at a time?

But isn’t the moon’s gravity much less than the Earth’s?

Isn’t it like jumping from a towered diving board into a pool vs trying to jump out of the pool onto the towered diving board?

In the story in question, she was quite drunk. Off the sauce, she can make the flight easily.

I was surprised and a little disappointed to see those SHIELD flying cars make the trip to the moon, but you did say “unaided.”

The Avengers (which space out over about six books at the moment) have several members who could make the trip, including StarBrand, Ex-Nihilo, Manifold (another teleporter), Smasher, and Pod, whose precise abilities elude me but seems to be a new incarnation of Super-Adaptoid. Captain Britain’s abilities depend entirely on who is writing him. He’s supposed to be barely-functional outside of Great Britain, but they make a lot of exceptions. A lot of these are unlikely to survive the current storyline.

Jim Hammond, the original Human Torch, as been shown to be able to fly to Jupiter, but I doubt that story is in continuity. Johnny Storm has also flown unaided in space on numerous occasions (original Galactus trilogy and Steve Englehart’s tenure on FF), but I think those involved special flying rigs and a temporary power bump; normally, I doubt he could do it.

Right. He could bring extra O2 and work in CO2 scrubbers. Also, a liquid diet could be worked out, but how would Stark jettison his poop?

Perhaps he could implement a poop airlock.
