Maryland governor bans use of rec guns till sniper caught. Is this even legal?

I think this is a resonable course of action to take, given the exceptional circumstances. What I’m worried about is what happens afterward, when lawmakers attempt to legislate for the exception.

In which case, cars definitely deserve to be banned far more than guns do, considering how many more people are killed by cars than by guns.*

[sub]*) excluding gun deaths in wars and riots

Nice cites, Rhum. I suppose there’s still a question of whether the law you cite is consistent with Marlyand’s constitution, but I imagine the courts would uphold this ban.

In any event, it seems to me that the governor needn’t have been so heavy handed about the whole thing. If he had REQUESTED that gun owners assist the investigation by refraining from hunting and target shooting in the affected areas; and made arrangements for refunds to be given on hunting permits, it probably would have worked just as well or better.
