I think the opening scenario was very reasonable. There were some odd details (Chevy Cobalt?) but nothing that screamed troll to me. “Is it creepy for a guy to give me his # while I’m jogging?” was a reasonable question to ask. The follow up stuff about how he immediately asked about sex (and anal?) before even meeting was a little weirder, but certainly possible. What pegs my BS meter is all her questions like “does he want me for more than sex?” and the repeated crap about not wanting to be seen as a piece of meat. She’s supposedly 25 and can’t figure this stuff out on her own? She doesn’t have girlfriends to bounce this shit off? The guy is telling her he wants anal on the first “date” and she’s hoping this is a real relationship? There’s naive, and then there’s ridiculous. And **Stoneburg** , I’m not seeing the vitriol or overreaction. One guy was on her case about punctuation, not trolling. Others (including me) have suggested in that thread that she might not be completely honest, but without vitriol. The thread’s not being derailed for those who are enjoying it. For people who don’t like feeling like suckers, this Pit thread is a good place to speculate and get in some jokes. ---

There is this really really long Russian novel, the main character is a Jew, and of course he lives to a ripe old age, but pretty much everybody he loves suffers and dies, often horribly, and he suffers all kinds of horrible shit as well, and at the end of the novel, after he dies and is standing in front of his Creator, he dares to raise his head and look the supreme being in the eye, and says he wants to ask one question. After recounting all the truly horrible shit he has endured, in now in tears, he says, “I want to know WHY!!??” God smiles a little smile, and answers him. “Because it makes for a more interesting story.” ---

I think it’s more fun to poke fun at the troll. Ok I guess here’s how I view it: 1. It’s REALLY not an exciting or extraordinary story. 2. Her first post was “is this weird?” which seems like a perfectly reasonable question because it is actually not totally clear. The situation is somewhere between normal and weird, leaning towards normal IMO (guy gets interested, hands out number). In fact, it turns out to be a very good question evidenced by the fact that I don’t think it is weird at all, and some people thought it was so weird that they were sure she made it up. For me the weirdest thing is that people think it is so weird. Have you never decided to hit on a stranger that you found attractive? ---

Try reading the other thread. In that one she was turned off by the sexting and that was it. She copied the first few posts from the other person, and thereafter began spicing up the story with sex and intrigue. ---

But people waffle, change their minds and have mixed feelings about these things. She implies in that thread that she’s not taking him up on the “hangout” offer, but she doesn’t say it outright. So it comes down to interpretation. I have no problem giving her the benefit of the doubt. And now I need to go see my therapist about why I spend so much time on this.
