# Master List of Music Genres -- got one handy?

I have an old bookmark for [http://www.bobsmusicindex.com/MasterGenreList.html](http://www.bobsmusicindex.com/MasterGenreList.html) which I think I remember acquiring here in an old thread on the topic of Music Genres. It was a large listing and appeared to have most of the genre names I had heard of. But today I can’t even tell what the link is supposed to be about: not music it seems.

Nowadays, the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music\_genre](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_genre) looks like a decent source. But it’s not as extensive as the old place was.

Do you happen to have a link to whatever became of -= Bobs Music Index – Master Genre List =- or maybe one even more comprehensive?

Any discussion of the notion of “Music Genres” is also welcome in this thread in spite of there being a large number of such threads already in existence. I was just unable to isolate whatever old thread I got that link from.

Have you tried the Wayback machine at the internet archive?

I tried a couple of the subpages off the archived version and they worked but I don’t know if it cached the whole site.

Fantastic! Thanks a bunch. That’s the one I remember. Until now I was unfamiliar with the Wayback machine.
