Didn’t see a thread for the Masters. No Arnold on the first tee tomorrow No Tiger for the 2nd year in row Par Three Contest canceled because of weather. But there are plenty of other stories. Dustin Johnson winner of three consecutive tournaments going into the Masters, not done in 40 years (Hubert Green). But he injured himself this afternoon, falling down stairs in his rental house. Status for the tournament is unknown. Jordan Spieth: How will he do considering his back nine collaspe in 2016. 5 shot lead on the 10th tee Mickelson trying to match Jack on winning the Masters at age 46. Can Rory McIlory complete the Career Professional Grand Slam? Good weather forecast for the weekend, little chance for rain, but Thurs-Fri are going to be windy. My pick is Rickie Fowler, and my sleeper is Jon Rahm, a Masters Rookie from Spain. ---

Rookies are always a bad bet at the Masters. Except when they aren’t. 😛 I was sad to hear about Dustin Johnson. He has the game for the course. He’s probably going to be unable to play. ☹ I would suggest Hideki Matsuyama as the “dark horse”. Yeah, he’s 2nd on the money list, but he’s never won a major before. He did well last year, as I recall. ---

I predict a Texan, an Aussie, or a Scot. Someone who grew up playing in the wind. This [del]could[/del] will be the highest cut in quite some time. I’ll go with Jason Day. ---

Long hitters who hit it low will be in good shape for the first round at least. Rory should win it but he won’t. I predict a first time winner 🙂 ---

Spieth got by #12 with a par. but made a big fat mess of the par 5 15th hole with a QUAD. Ugh. ---

Hoffman, McGirt, Westwood, Mickelson, Lowry, Dufner on the leaderboard. Paragons of fitness! Outstanding Round from Charley Hoffman. In relation to field score (average and Std Deviation) one of the best ever in Masters history, I would guess. ---

Hoffman beat the field average by nearly 10 shots which might happen 5 times a year on the PGATour (Approximately 235 rounds). His Z-score was 3.50 which is very rare. Jim Furyk shot 58 last season in Hartford for the record low round. He was 10.65 shots better than the average score but the z-score was “3.10” ---

Charlie Hoffman is one of those guys who never seems to have made it as big as he ought to have. Without looking up his stats, it just seemed like he was VERY often right there in the biggest events - especially in the early rounds. Personally, I think he gave up his power when he lost the mullet! 😃 DJ’s still my favorite (tho I’m not exactly sure why!) So his tumble reduced a lot of my interest. Sad that my first thought was to wonder whether he was stoned… I seem to be over Phil. I’ll probably root for Day or McIlroy. Not sure why I have yet to jump on the Speith bandwagon. ---

But he’s now at an age (41) where only golfers of above-average health and fitness can expect much success. And his health (especially his back) is definitely not above average. For the second year in a row he was unable to play in The Masters. ---
