The “poem” is actually the song [_Ohio_](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio_(Crosby,_Stills,_Nash_%26_Young_song)) by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, which was a protest song about the [Kent State shootings](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kent_State_shootings) of May 4, 1970 in the state of Ohio when National Guardsmen fired at a group of students, killing four and wounding nine others. It occurred after President Nixon announced the invasion of Cambodia and protests were held on campus, although not all of the students shot at were protesters. In any event, the shootings were unprovoked and there was much condemnation of Nixon and of the National Guard. It is a notable event in U.S. history. ---
