I’m wondering if he doesn’t really know how his tv works. Also, maybe he has PTSD, thus the tizzy over the loud noise (_mostly_ kidding; no offense intended to PTSD sufferers). ---

The best thing is for you to stay away. However, a child has many less smarts & strength (due to age) to get away, if they even realize that they shouldn’t be with the non-custodial parent who took them somewhere. While I agree that TV might not be the best way to disseminate an Amber Alert due to the fact that people are in their homes & not out & about where they might see the target vehicle if they weren’t so loud they wouldn’t get people’s attention. There’s many a time where I’ll get up while watching some sporting event to tend to food; whether that’s pulling something out of the oven, refilling the pretzels/chip bowl, or getting another drink. If I hear the announcers go crazy I run back in & can frequently catch the end of the play that they were getting so excited about. I’d totally miss anything that was just a crawler across the screen, However, there is a very simple solution for you, try turning off your TV some time; the _horrors_ of having to enter a channel # again. ---

There’s a setting on many TVs now that allows the set to be controlled by an external device – for instance, docking your Nintendo Switch when it’s on would automatically turn on the TV.
