I had a somewhat similar breakup. about 5 years ago,I was dating this guy,seeing him 3 times a week.We listened to the same college radio station in the wee hours. So one night,we talked on the phone for an hour,then went to the radio. I requested a song(judas priest) for him. Then the dj comes on with his song request for me"so tired" by Ozzy.saying he just wants to be friends now! He had the dj announce he was breaking up with me!On the air! Ha! I got over it soon enough,I figured i had wasted my time anyway. ---

Yeah, if you want to be totally consistent with the Greek/Latin thing, you’re right – but we don’t have a Hades on this board, do we now? To borrow an analogy from the Master’s work, that’s like insisting that hamburgers are, in fact, made of dead _steer_. Technically correct, but it ruins the joke, yes? ---

We interrupt this thread for the following clarification: Persephone and I are not an item! You have confused me with someone else who happens to have the same name. I am a lovable Disney character. I’m in love with the cute long-haired dachshund in the next yard. (You remember the time I wrecked her doghouse and gave her mine?) We now return control of this thread to those wishing to commiserate with Satan. Satan – I’m sorry for what happened, too. I know what you mean when you say it’s not just the breakup but not seeing it coming. If you think about it, both of those things are real hard on your self-esteem. So it’s going to be sit and think about who you are time for a while. That’s always very painful but also very useful. You’ll find the parts of you that you **know** are worth keeping and you’ll find some parts that you knew weren’t really good for you and now you have a chance to jettison them. Then (another hard thing) you can put it all back together. “Falling apart” and “putting your life back together” are more than metaphors. They are real processes we are (thankfully) not called upon to go through very often – but every time we do the finished product is a big improvement over where we started. Hang in there, buddy. Pluto, too bad for you! My real name is Melania which is what Persephone was called in the wintertime (when she was hanging out with the lord of the underworld). Don’t ask me why I’m not a goth chick. Anyway, Satan, good riddence, IMO. I always thought Heather was a meatball. My worst dump experience was when Jxxx Txxxxx (in 8th grade) said to me, “I think you’re really cool, but my friends don’t like you.” Of course later I ended up going out with one of his friends. Ha. Oh, I’ve also been dumped via AOL Instant Messenger. It’s a lot harder to type out replies than say them - unfair advantage on his part. ---

As it happens, my relationship is in serious shakeup at the moment, and may be heading for an end, which would frankly completely devastate me, even though I am the one who set it in motion. We’ve been together for 5 years, engaged for 1.5 - it’s big news. IT does sound, however, like in the end it will be a good thing for you. ---

If I could make a suggestion… Channel your anger into something positive. If you are overweight, lose it. If you’re out of shape, exercise. If you always wanted to be a writer, dig in. If your career is stalled, work on it. If you always wanted to go back to school, get going. Seek revenge, but of this type: “The best revenge is living well.” Turn yourself into a great person that she’ll kick herself for ever having left. Work on your faults, and move ahead. I always try to take negatives and turn them into positives. In the end, you might tell yourself “I’m glad that happened, or I wouldn’t be where I am today.” ---

I agree with dhanson on this…when the above break up occured, I put in unbelievable time at work and recieved several awards and letters of citation for my efforts. And it helped keep my mind from brooding. ---

My $.02: Work things out with US-scare from your other thread. Collect whatever emotional baggage you may have and come to NY (you’re company’s got an office here, you can probably even deduct the trip). The NY SDMBers will take you out, we’ll have a few laughs, a few beers, etc. And as a bonus, you just _know_ that the airline will lose that baggage for you. 😉 * * * Livin’ on Tums, Vitamin E and Rogaine ---
