So here we are 4 and a half-ish hours later and I just got the reference. Where’s the euthanasia machine — I have a quarter! An aside: Back in high school, our concert/stage band went to a county-wide adjudication and I was invited along because I made a pest of myself. The really snazzy band from the money part of the county were playing **Bob Newhart theme** and when they got to the last two notes — bom, BOM! — from the back of the auditorium came, “Meow.” It wasn’t me, for once. ---

If the callsign is used for an oldies or classic rock station, it’d seem to be the right audience. Just what the market needs, another festering oldies format. These days, a new major market station with live jocks and an actual local news department is a highly unlikely proposition. ---

Whatever this “new” WKRP winds up being, it’s unlikely to try to duplicate the exact style of a fictional radio station from the late 1970s. I do suspect that they’ll try to lean into a nostalgic music format – otherwise, why bother to buy the call letters?
