This is a rant on behalf of a friend.

My husband has his amazing job at a brilliant company completely due to recommendation of a friend of his. My husband was 64 years old when got this job, beating out younger men who had college degrees. We are eternally thankful to this friend and now husband’s co-worker.

Friend is about the same age as my husband. He and his wife don’t own their own home, but have been renting a house for years and getting a break on the rent. They’ve just been told by the owner to move out, and friend is finding out the harsh realities of the cost of renting in the bay area today. Not only that, but there are essentially no houses to rent in his area due to displaced residents from the fires in the Santa Rosa area.

They finally found a small apartment they could afford, but had to give up many possessions in order to move in. He still hopes to find a better place, but the man is in his late sixties and I don’t think rents will come down before his retirement age.

Aging out of the housing market in the bay area sucks. I’ve heard of many older longtime residents, born and raised here, forced out of the area because housing is ridiculously expensive.

thanks

Experimentally I sitzed with lukewarm colloidal oatmeal and it soothed the burn nicely, so I made a batch (portioned out into tiny 1 cup food storage contsiners) of preprepared oatwater so I just need to grab one when it is needed. Had to warn mrAru that it wasn’t for food.

Breakfast today strawberry medsludge, 12 oz milk, 4 oz greek yogurt, pack of strawberry carnation instant breakfast, 2 tb oat flour and 1 tb flaxmeal. Not bad, tonight perhaps chocolat malted will be the flavor choice.

I see that, thanks. He will shoot the dog, not the owner. I hope that’s what he meant!😉

> My bite is healed. Mr.Wrekker told the offending dogs owner if he sees him out again he will shoot him. We live in a very rural area and this guy is coming close for his dogs to run foxes at night. Generally I have no problem with this activity. But a bunch of dogs get left behind. And we have to deal with it. Most of the time you just call the owner, if the dog is tagged, and they will come get them. This is how I got bit, looking for the tag. I stupidly put my hand over his head. The dog is vicious, there is no doubt.

I thought SSS was the rule in rural areas regarding dogs?

Shit, shower and shave? Not so much.🙂
Shoot strays on sight? Maybe some folks do. I am all about giving the dog a chance. I have no 4 legged livestock any more, that’s not my issue. But I know people with horses who shoot first ask questions later. Not me.
Mr.Wrekker, well he has a differing view. Especially since I was bitten.

I kind of get letting dogs roam in very rural areas (though I’d never do it, I love my beasts too much). I don’t understand letting your dog roam free in a busy urban area or having shitty fencing that’s easily escaped.

I did attempt to speak with the across-the-street neighbors about their rat dog after doggie was almost squished by a car (yet again). They are spooky-ass people\* – as in, I’m not knocking on their door ever again.

Spooky-assness report: in six years we’d never spoken to them nor seen them outside except between door and cars, I didn’t even know they had kids until I went to their door. They have landscapers come twice a week and their lawn and plants are showpiece-y.

A few weeks ago six cop units were in their driveway for quite a while. On Monday we heard screaming from their house and a big police response came again. There were no cars in the drive again til yesterday, and the landscapers hadn’t come; I was going to call for a welfare check on them today, but cars are back and lawn is mowed.

I think, just from the brief exchange when I went over about their dog, they speak Russian or a similar language. I’m soooo curious about these people!

As stoic as I try to be, having chronic illness and pain as your constant companions really bites. I try not to complain much in the homestead. So FUCK IT!, I’m complaining here. Choosing between being without pain or possibly overusing my opiates sucks!

The Siamese don’t like the Air conditioning. They are allover me squawking and yowling. I guess they are cold. It’s been in the 90s, so it must be on. I guess they will get used to it. I don’t remember this being a problem in the past. Holy crap they are driving me crazy.

We’ve got posters here that live in Thailand, so it was a bit jarring to hear someone complaining about the Siamese.

But I guess I would, too, if multiple pre-war Thais or conjoined twins were “allover me squawking and yowling”…

The office manager for the company I work for ( as a contractor, not an employee ) pissed me off again.

I needed to send an email to the new project manager. The following conversation ensued

ME : I need to email the new guy. How does he spell his first name?

HER: the email addresss doesn’t use his name —it’s [projectmanager@horridplacetowork.com](mailto:projectmanager@horridplacetowork.com)

(That’s not what I asked)

ME: I have that information but I would like to refer to him by name in the body of the e-mail.

HER: you don’t need to do that.

ME: it’s how I deal with people. How does he spell his first name.

HER: H-A-I-M

ME: Are you sure?
That name is typically spelled C-H-A-I-M

HER: yes, but that’s not how he spells it.

ME- OK then —-that’s why I asked.

So I write and send the e-mail. I get a response. It’s signed CHAIM.

Grrrrrrr…I know this person tries to foment dissent wherever possible ( which at horridplacetowork is like fomenting dissent in the Middle East) but you’re supposed to be my friend. I have no words. And she does payroll, she knows damn well how the name is spelled.

I know it’s a little thing, but I pride myself on this kind of attention to detail, and I hate being sabotaged.

My work rant: I started a new role several weeks ago (same company, just different department). As a matter of course, I need access to new systems and folders to which I did not have access to before. And it is the most fucking frustrating experience I can remember since I had to submit 13 tickets once to get a password changed. I have submitted different versions of the same form 4 times. Each. I’ve entered about 15 tickets or so. I’ve chatted with the help desk. I’ve emailed people who purportedly can help me. Yet, I still have access to maybe 50% of what I need.

And of those to which I do have access, some of the access includes seeing that certain files are present, but not being able to actually view them. Letting me see the excel icon in the folder I requested is not the same fucking thing as being able to open the excel file. Seeing the folder is useless if I cannot open its contents. Why the fuck would I have to submit four different forms to be able to not only view a file, but also be able to open it and yet another to be able to manipulate it?

Also, is it really useful to give me access to a website when I’m not allowed to see anything on said website such as reporting? Particularly when I’m the person putting some of the reports up there and I told you that in the three tickets I’ve submitted? Hmmm? In the meantime, someone else on my team must now do this shit for me, which means that his time is being wasted, too. Thanks, asshats. I’m sure there’s some very specific thing I’m missing out on, but you really need a business-facing process that’s understandable to people who are not help desk. Then we wouldn’t need help as often.

My daughter just got her first taste of having a grown child forget Mothers Day or other commemorative event. I really wanted to say: neener neener, now you know how it feels.
