Mayor of Ft. Lauderdale: Can't buy a house? Just work more!

ooookaaayyy… that last one was fascinating

Though it’s true that Broward and Palm Beach counties are really a hodgepodge of incorporated micro-municipalities, it is also true that they do tend to become radically divergent in socioec levels, and it may or may not be a good idea to have a polity where the main body of public servants are viewed by the Mayor with scorn as low-rent schlubs – or polities made up entirely of low-rent schlubs.
BTW, the railroad was there first. Suck it up. Or, move to both live and work East of the railroad. If you can afford it…

Well, t he free market solution here is that entrepreneurial developers will see that there’s a market for low-cost housing in your area and will build plenty of reasonably priced homes that you can buy. Because that’s how the free market always works right? (This is my whole problem with free market economics – they work best for rich people, and frequently they don’t work at all for middle income and poor people.

The free market doesn’t value work, only wealth.

Well, the free market theory is an excellent tool for providing a seemingly objective rationale for making the rich richer and the middle class and the poor … you know the drill.

I believe the free market response is, “Let them eat trickle-down!”
