I wasn’t sure if I should have put this under “Mundane”, but anyway

Turner Classic Movies
One of the best movies ever… If you didn’t like it the first time, give it another chance. I liked it initially, but LOVED it the second time. Altman movies are like this, since there is so much going on. I can say the same about the movies of John Cassavetes.
I won’t put any major spoilers out there, but this movie is a great microcosm of America… How the big eat the small, and how laws are only around to protect the most powerful… Hopefully some will watch, and maybe reply to the thread and have a discussion.

I forgot how overrated this was. The performances are stereotyped and inauthentic. Clyde Barrow was raped and brutalized in prison as a kid. Beatty was never much of an actor.

I remember it as being an outstanding film, one of Altman’s 2 or 3 best. (My personal favorite of his.) And it has Leonard Cohen standing around in the scenery around performing the soundtrack.

I agree with this comment. It’s pretty good, but never saw the hype behind it. I think it was the violence, and then of course “The Wild Bunch” outdid it… A distraction from great writing.

Nashville? Yep. It was fine, but the “mosaic” structure didn’t really add up for me. My other favorites were MASH and (much later) Gosford Park.
One Altman-connected film that greatly impressed me was “Choose Me”, directed by Alan Rudolph, who was Altman’s assistant director on _Nashville_. It starred Keith Carradine whose character — fresh out of the crazy house — claims to have an amazing resume: author, photographer, international man of mystery. Genevieve Bujold plays a radio sex therapist witha messed-up personal life.
It was funny and stylish.
