And not only that, but the press “doing its job” would then have had a field day accusing the McCain campaign of trying to cover it up and keep it a secret because they knew it would reflect poorly on her as both a parent and candidate. That sounds like you’re assuming that something would have been found had they not “left her alone” pre or post-18, but it’s not like the big bad mainstream press, the meanie bloggers, or even the tabloids would have found anything interesting about Chelsea other than schoolwork and the occasional vanilla boyfriend. I would imagine she knows all about and uses birth control, and we’ve never heard even whispering of juicy party behavior. ---

Aside from the occasional story about underage drunken parties, hasn’t the press pretty much left the Bush twins alone? And hasn’t Bush used his daughters for his benefit (through photo ops and on the campaign trail) plenty of times before? The only consistent bias in the media is one towards a juicy, titillating story. Baby mama drama is the oldest titillating story in the book. ---
