Any spots left in the “It’s bullshit” choir? The idea of the attacker stopping to look at her bumper sticker never made sense, either. IANA mugger, but I thought the idea was to get the money and run the fuck away before your victim sees you well, or, say, sees you, hears you speak, and learns about your political affiliation. :rolleyes: ---

As sick as the amateur vetting is, the news stories are frustrating. This woman, regardless of the details, was clearly not “maimed” or “carved”. The sensationalism is ridiculous, especially given the sketchy nature of the story. ---

I immediate thought BS when I saw the B was backwards, it reminded me of the Morton Downey Jr stunt from years ago. Then I thought that it was possible if the man had her on the ground and was above her head when he carved it. I’m still leaning towards BS, but I always hate to judge. ---

I think that joking about an attempted sexual assault by calling it “to almost get to second base” is inappropriate. I do question whether this woman was attacked, but her reporting attempted sexual assault is not what makes me question her. What makes me doubtful is the delicate and backward nature of the engraving, and the odd nature of her black eye. I never had a black eye that bruised that quickly with no swelling and no burst blood vessels at the surface of the eye. ---

Notice that it’s a **black** eye? And only HALF of her eyes are black? And the backwards B - obviously a reference to “backwards” people. How obvious does it have to be? ---

The joke is the lie that this young woman is telling about a mugger taking the time to feel up her breast. What is this, a 6-4 200 pound 12 year old? Liberty Avenue is a primary artery through Pittsburgh, and would not be the kind of place that anyone would spend a great deal of time carrying out a long, drawn out kind of attack. We’re already supposed to believe that he took the time to carefully scratch a nice, if backwards, B on her face, on Liberty Avenue, but that he took the time to _reach up her shirt_ to fondle a breast as well. Frankly, the last bit sounds like something someone who thinks that black guys are oversexed and would necessarily want to fondle some white breasts might say. I certainly think many of the post on the matter have been unduly nasty. I do doubt her, but I think I would doubt other similar claims for the same reason, well one less, because M is symmetrical, so is unlikely to be made backward. My doubt was not instant and did come only after seeing the photo. I initially had doubts because the attack was first described to me as a B carved with a knife, and the horrific picture that conjured is a stark contrast to the picture of Ms. Todd. After the initial relief that her injuries were not as severe as I imagined, then I wondered why they had been characterized that way and looked more closely at the evidence presented. ---
