McCain wanted Lieberman or Ridge, met with Palin for the first time last week

About McCain’s “camp” statements: I’m inclined to take whatever they say with a small grain of salt. They might be just the tiniest bit biased, don’t you think? What do you expect them to say? “We picked her because we are scared shitless, and anyway, a secretive conservative think tank told us to.”

She is there for political reasons. Not because any one thinks she is well qualified. She is another Harriet Miers.

I can’t do a search right now so I can’t find the specific threads, but I remember that, on this very board, Sampiro (IIRC) reported to us that the McCain crew was in talks with Palin about the VP slot several months ago, and that the main stumbling block was that at the time she didn’t want it (understandable since maybe at the time she needed to adapt to life with the new baby first before considering it).
Another one of our own members (can’t remember the name) brought up her name in one of the “guess who the VP will be” threads long before she was on the radar for most folks.
That alone is enough to convince me this was not a last minute panic move or completely out of left field - just a pretty well kept secret (unlike the whole Biden text message flop).

People are saying the craziest stuff abotu this pick. It’s amazing how hard it is for liberals, of all people, to wrap their minds around the concept of a female candidate.
Or even to consider the possibility that maybe she wasn’t chosen to appeal to the Hillary crowd but to appeal to an entirely different segment who would respond well to a female with strong conservative credentials.
If McCain had picked a boring old white guy, I somehow doubt you guys would be lavishing praise on him no matter who he picked. :stuck_out_tongue:

And there’s the Washington Post for you, Sam:

Whoopsie. Not gonna believe it until you see it on Fox News?

I’m amazed at the depth and width of McCain’s poor judgment. There had to be at least a hundred better qualified republicans of national or state constitutional office-holding qualification who would have been better. Agnew was a better pick in '68.

She got her ex-BIL fired to score custody points for her sister. She fired the guy who refused to fire her. She was for the asinine bridge to no-where, and now lies about it. When confronted with a scurrilous rumor about her own recent pregnancy, she doesn’t quash it dead with the delivery room medical records, but chooses to embarrass her teenage daughter on national media over a three day weekend in a way that shows that her daughter has defied momma’s immovable moral teachings. After introducing this issue, she then claims that it is off limits for anyone else to discuss it.

Her husband has belonged to a party of secessionists, she apparently attended their statewide convention at least once and was remembered by the party leadership as a member. Hoo-boy.

On the other hand, I’d do her.
