:smack: McDonalds definitely has an oven and it definitely only takes 2 minutes to bake cookies. Just like the pies. … they are also baked in the oven not the microwave or the pie warmer.
Omg I had completely forgotten about those till now!! We always got the ones that just said chocolately chip. I can still remember the taste! And how the chips would be kinda melted from being in the box next to the hot food. Ahh the memories!
Since when are the pies baked? I remember them being fried when I works there over 30 years ago. Is my memory wrong or did they change?
Once when I ordered a soft pretzel at Subway I watched the guy take an obviously frozen, pale white pretzel out of the bag and pop it into the oven. It was browned and piping hot in a very short time so I asked him how it cooked so fast.
“Convection oven, 30 seconds at 1200 degrees”. They actually use a TurboChef combination microwave-convection oven.

The Q-ing ovens in our restaurant were basically just 2000-Watt microwave ovens; in comparison, most microwaves you’ll find in the store are 750-900 W. Every sandwich would get “Q’d” before going into the transfer “bin” - that was the hot ‘slide’ that the kitchen manager would put the burgers into and then they’d slide down towards the front counter.
They stopped using that system somewhere around 1999 though (at least in Canada). Burgers are now made to-order.
What I really miss are the Chocolatey Chip cookies… little boxes of dry, stale, sugary heaven. Mmmmmmmmm.
Well, at least since 2012.
They made the change maybe 20??? years ago to try to give the impression that they were somewhat healthier. I don’t know if they really are, but c’mon, it’s a pie! The fried ones were so good, especially cherry.
Cookies are pre-made and kept in the freezer. When people ask for fresh cookies or we run out, we grab them from the freezer and lay them out on a baking tray. Stick them in the all purpose hot ass oven, lock the door, and press the timer for 2 minutes. Same thing with pies, take them from the freezer and oven them, except pies usually take 9-14 minutes depending on how many are on a tray, and the cool down time. Biscuits are microwaved for a little bit, then put in the oven for 3 minutes. Pancakes are already made and just refrigerated, and we microwave those too. Breakfast burritos? Microwaved. Eggs are almost all steamed except scrambled (which is liquid egg) and folded egg which comes already folded in a plastic bag of 12 where we just steam them for a few minutes to get them up to temp. McGriddles are already made and “cooked” just like pies and cookies. Filet-o-Fish buns are so soft because they’re the only sandwich that’s got a steamed bun, and grilled chicken is the freshest thing we have, but it takes 14 minutes to make, 7 on each side and it rarely sells so they’re not usually fresh off the grill. Bacon is cooked every morning and is rarely dropped throughout lunch for BQPC’s. QPC’s are fresh beef like it says but they come vacuum sealed in a bag and they don’t turn bright red until it’s opened. Round egg is real egg from a shell. Anything else ya wanna know?
