So I’m flying tonight, and when we land I’m absolutely jonesing for food. What made me want to get a Big Mac, I’ll never know, but there I was, waiting patiently at the drive-thru at McDonald’s. For fifteen minutes. With nary a peep from the guy at the window. So I pull around, and what do I see? He’s too busy shooting the shit with his boyz from tha 'hood to do what he’s paid to do. So I get out of the car and I go up to the window, and I ask the guy a question. “Can’t you even pretend to care about doing your job? I honked, I talked into the speaker, I sat there like a friggin’ tool waiting for you to do your damn job. Is it too much to ask that you just pretend to care? Really?” So I get in my car and go after that, without hearing even so much as a peep from the clown. Well, that cinches it. Not that the food is that good anyway, but every once in a while I have a craving that simply cannot be satisfied by anything but a Big Mac. No longer. From where the sun now stands, I will patronize McDonald’s no more forever. If I must eat fast food (which I must), Wendy’s gets my business. Simple as that. ---

To judge a corporation by just one idiot, lazy employee (although it’s unclear whether they guys he’s goofing off with are also employees or not) may be a bit harsh, but judging by the McD’s in America that I’ve seen, this behavior isn’t too far off the norm. Not that Wendy’s is a whole lot better. ---

You’re damn right I am. If this is the quality of employee I can expect to get randomly, then why would I go there? The people at Wendy’s were quite happy to see me. When I worked foodservice, I was on top of everything. If I had to talk about baseball for 10 minutes while they were waiting, I would. If I had to hear their marital problems while they were waiting, I would. If it took too long, I gave it to them free so as to engender goodwill. I NEVER outright ignored people to hang out with my friends. Yes, my standards are absurdly high. McDonald’s failed to meet my standards, not for the first time, but I can guarantee you it will be the last time. ---

Actually, that sounds a lot like what happened to my Dad. Except instead of waiting a long time, they kept getting the orders wrong. But he didn’t stop going to McDonald’s completely. He just went to a different McDonald’s across town. Sounds like a good idea to me. And this way you can still satisfy those Big Mac attacks. And after fifteen minutes, Dad would have gone to the other McD’s anyway. P.S. McDonald’s french fries are very tasty indeed. ---

One encounter by one employee with one customer has cost McD’s one customer. Why is this not fair? I agree with Airman Doors. I just hope he sticks to his principles. ---

I’ll see your one lazy idiot and raise you the McD location on Howard St. in Evanston between Asbury and Ridge. For the last 15 YEARS, I have gone there about once every year or so just to keep up the tradition: I will order something, it might be a couple double cheeseburgers, fries and a large lemonade, it might be two Happy Meals and a Royale with Cheese, it might be a ten piece McNuggets with two Mustards and a honey packet. IT MATTERS NOT WHAT I ORDER!!! In fifteen years I have NEVER received exactly what I ordered 🙂 I have taken friends here and when they ordered a Big Mac and a med Coke…they get a McChicken and a Coke. I have let my gf order instead…we get Happy meals with no fries. I once ordered the 2 double cheeseburgers for 2 bucks deal they had, and the bag seemed heavy so I perversely waited till I got home…I had FOUR McRibs sandwiches in my bag and was charged $2.25 or so for them! My ex maintains that we once ordered a large fries…just a large fries and got it, but I think I was drunk and she ordered while I dozed in the passenger seat. In any case it was in 1991 and it’s the only time she could remember them getting an order right there. “LottoMcD” was her nickname for it. Bloody eejits…and their food is crap, why would I buy a Big Mac when I can go down the street and get a fantastic al carbon taco, or an incredible plate of chicken biryani for less money !!! ---

I’ve gone to several diferent McDonald’s, and frankly they’re as individual as the people who run them. I’ve come across a few tha totally suck, and others that run nearly perfectly. If the McDonald’s on First St. sucks, well, I’ll go to the one on Elm St. instead, where I always get great service. Sure, it’s all the same corporation, but just because one of its locations sucks ass, doesn’t mean that they all do. And to be honest, I’m not depriving myself of food I like, just because one employee at one location has no work ethic. ---

I dunno, I’m with **Airman** on the boycott, though for a different reason. The last Big Mac I had, the patties were no thicker than the cardboard it came in. I kid you not. Blindfolded I would never have been able to detect the meat in it. I hadn’t had one in years, and it will be much longer than that before I have another. When I have a hankering for a fast food burger, as does happen on occasion, it’s off to A&W. Or, if I really want a real burger, Fuddruckers. ---

Wendy’s, huh? Whatever you do, don’t go to the new Wendy’s on Ventura & Fallbrook. I’ve been there four times and it’s ALWAYS been a pain. Once they shorted me a dollar in change, when I complained the guy just looked confused and gave me back an _extra_ dollar in change, well if he couldn’t get it right the first time I wasn’t going to complain again. 😃 And just last night I was stuck waiting over 15 mins. at 10 o’clock at night, I think they were playing a game to see how many people they could get stuck in line. On the other hand, I’ve never had trouble at McDonald’s. Of course, I never go to McDonald’s, because their food sucks ass. ---

This is kind of off-topic but I know a person who is 48 years old and has never eaten a single McDonalds item (or Wendy’s or Burger King for that matter). Astonishing really…that makes him one of a very small minority. ---

And I’m with **Gorsnak** , A&W makes one hell of a bacon double cheese and their fries are great. The one near me makes their own fry sauce that keeps me going back for more. I fucking dream about that stuff. But the bastards won’t share the recipie, I will never stop trying to get it though… ---

I always go for the #4 with a coke. It has never been messed up. And the burger contains enough meat so that you’d never be left wanting. Airman, perhaps you’re not familiar with the concept of “franchising”? ---

A couple of weeks ago I got some cash back with my McDonald’s purchase. I went back home, got ready for work, and as I was walking out the door, I realized that the cashier had NEVER ACTUALLY GIVEN ME THE MONEY. So I walked back – I live just a block from the place and go there quite a bit – explained the situation, and they gave me the money, no problem. Yay for McDonald’s!
