Does anyone else find it strange that the marinara sauce for McDonald’s mozzarella sticks comes in such dated packaging? The design is clearly from ye olde days of McNugget lore and boasts a 1986 copyright date. What is \*that \* about? I remember Mc’D had some _McNuggets Around the World_ hoopla back and the early 80’s. With the Japanese theme you got Teriyaki sauce and chopsticks (which amused me to no end). Does anyone else remember that promo? What other past McNugget sauces have there been? I assume these are just remnant packaging they’ve dusted off to save a buck. Makes one wonder what other leftover supplies they’ve got lying around. Surely Mayor McCheese and Officer McPatty must be lurking about, plotting their return. ---

Oh, and I looked for the McD’s marinara sauce but was unbable to find it. Also, the museum seems to mostly have current versions, not older ones. ---

Many McD’s have either regional foods you won’t find other places (try finding a McD’s lobster roll outside of New England (not that you’d want to)) or they have test markets where they try new foods. Sometimes, even if a product doesn’t become one that is marketed everywhere, it might stay in the test market because it did so well there. ---

There’s also McPizza in some places still. I rarely go to McDs nowadays are there any So Cal-centric test foods? ---

We Illinois folk have the ability to go to the McD’s corporate offices in Oak Brook. The resturant there serves almost all of the offerings that are available at any McDonald’s in the world. And they sell beer. ---

(It’s not a commercially obvious McDonalds - it’s in an office building, with no real signage on the outside. I didn’t even know it was open to the public - I thought it was an employee only thing. Maybe I’ll have to go try McLobster Rolls.) ---

The McDonald’s [in Waikiki](http://flickr.com/photos/waikikiweekly/34149302/in/photostream/) offered spam and rice and teriyaki, served by employees wearing aloha shirts and leis. It also included pineapple with every combo meal, but it wasn’t optional and cost an extra $2.50 or so, making my [“Number A”](http://flickr.com/photos/waikikiweekly/34149512/in/photostream/) Big Mac combo cost $6.99. ---

I’ve pretty much sworn off fast food and McDonald’s in particular, but I always did have a crazy fondness for the McRib sandwich. And just about everyone I knew who ever tried it loved it too, which made me wonder why they only trotted it out (no pun intended) as a limited-time menu item every few years.
