Have you had a McRib lately? How much hassle was it to get one?

Are you headed out right now to get one? Do you know for sure that your Mickey D’s will even have one for you?

I was at McD’s the other day and saw the sign but I had already ordered. Oh well. Perhaps I’ll get the urge to stop by the Golden Arches again before it goes away.

I’ve never had one before. I know about the hype but really, are they that good? I mean, it was unpopular enough to be pulled from the regular menu… All the hype seems to be artificial- they’re pulling a Cartmanland.

How are they?

The only times I have been to a Mickey D’s in the past dozen or so years were to get McGriddles or other breakfast stuff. I had a McRib many years ago and liked it. I also liked the McLean even better. But it’s been ages!

I’ll probably pass on the hype myself. Just curious how you folks felt about it all.

I think it’s just that it’s something different. It’s nothing that special really, just a processed pork patty shaped like a tiny rack of ribs with artificial grill marks on it slathered in sugary BBQ sauce and slapped in a bun. I’d imagine if it were a regular menu item it wouldn’t sell very well, which is probably how it ended up becoming the mythical item it is. Fucking brilliant if you ask me.

They really look disgusting – processed mystery meat shaped to look like ribs. But no ribs.

They really aren’t anything special. It’s hype. But anything covered in barbecue sauce is worth having on a menu, if you ask me.

Personally, I much prefer to pick up a pack of [frozen BBQ rib patties](http://www.on-cor.com/OnCor_Products.html) and a bag of bolilo rolls from the store. Costs about as much as a single McRib, and they’re just as tasty.

They are nasty but it has become a meme. People would show up at rallies and likewise events with a sign saying “Bring back the McRib!”, which was a total joke. It built up the hype for the thing, but eating one is really not pleasant. The joke is great but the sandwich is not.

I _loved_ the McRib when it was introduced. (I was eleven.) It was The Best Sandwich Ever, the passing of which was deeply mourned.

The last time I had one was a year or two ago. I was very jazzed to see it on the menu, but _christ on a bun_ a person’s palate changes a bit when three decades are allowed to elapse. Blecch.

McRibs are not all that special. It’s just that they’re lased with crack so you’ll kill for another shortly after you finish one.

That or your body doesn’t recognize it as “food” so you’ll still be hungry even if you eat 20 of them.

That would be the BBQ sauce.

Me too. Aldi’s has a house brand that are very nearly identical to McRibs, and under $4 a 6 pack. Throw on a few dill pickle slices and white onions and you’re grinnin’. An occasional guilty pleasure for dinner when Mom’s busy studying. 😉

They are nasty. Nasty nasty nasty! A tiny shriveled oversauced bit of unidentifiable gristle meat on a bun with hamburger pickles and raw onions. That’s it. I tried one last go-round and I’m guessing they’re the same now.

Two decades instead of three in my case, but I came in here to say the _exact_ same thing. It was Teh Awesomeness when I was a kid, not so much the last time I had one on the last re-introduction. Will be skipping it this time.

They oughta just sell the BBQ sauce, separately. I’d dip my fries in that.

IIRC (and I may not, it’s been a long damn time since I’ve been in McD’s), the BBQ sauce was the same as the sauce you get with chicken nuggets. I always used to ask for a couple packets of those with my fries, too.

I haven’t had a McRib since … whenever it was they first came out with them.

I don’t know if they’re any different now, but I saved a ton of money on ExLax on account of those bad boys. My stomach would be rumbling before I finished chewing the first bite, and generally speaking, I’d have to finish the sandwich while sitting on the toilet, else I’d shit my pants.

Or is that too much information?

My wife absolutely loves them. I’m ambivalent. We’ve had a few McRibs since they started selling them again. Rather, she has, I haven’t.

She still loves them and they are at all the McD’s around us, so it’s not all that hard to get them. Granted, we actually don’t usually have McDonalds, so we are making an exception for the next few weeks.

I wonder why McD’s hasn’t tried more experiments with that BBQ sauce and burgers or chicken. I remember reading an article in the Wall Street Journal about McDonald’s development of snack wraps and the idea behind those was that they were looking for items that their locations already had on hand (tortillas from breakfast burritos, chicken patties otherwise intended for sandwiches) that they could recombine into something else. Surely it wouldn’t take a genius to put a squirt of McRib BBQ sauce on a burger and, bada-boom-bada-bing, Cowboy McDouble or whatever.

Just had one not an hour ago. I try to get at least one every time they come back.

I like 'em, but then nobody has ever accused me of having the most sophisticated of culinary tastes. Yes, the meat is processed and pressed, but that means what you get is absolutely _not_ “gristle meat”. It’s actually quite tender, and I find the texture to be palatable. And it doesn’t taste bad, if you’re somebody who likes pork and doesn’t mind McDonald’s in the first place.

But oh! The sauce! that’s really what makes it a true McRib. Yummy. They absolutely _drench_ it in the stuff. The pickles add a nice counterpoint, though I always order without onions – I don’t like raw onions on anything.

Burger King used to have the Rodeo Burger which was just a regular BK burger with a couple of onion rings and BBQ sauce. I was addicted to those things!
