The veggie patty at Subway is yum (I’m a veggie) and I’ve wondered whether meat-eaters ever actually buy that stuff. Or any other obvious meat substitutes like soy or veggie burgers. ---

i do. the morning star black bean patties are really good. however, when i’m eating them, i’m not thinking “oh. burger time.” i’m thinking “oh. bean paste time” (not in a bad way. just a not-meat way). however, i don’t think i’ve ever ordered a veggie burger at a restaurant where meat is readily available. that’s just silly. ---

Some years ago, I was doing Weight Watchers; I was told that a veggie burger was only 1 point (this was back in the days of the ‘points’ system; don’t know what they’re using now), and one of the meeting attendees was saying that ‘veggie burgers taste just like real hamburgers’; well, I tried them. They weren’t bad, but I had to add cheese, pickles, steak sauce, lettuce and tomatoes to make them into something I’d willingly eat. Having said that, I’m not opposed to the occasional vegetarian meal, though I’m an avowed meat-eater. It just has to taste good! ---

Sure. There are a lot of tasty meat substitutes out there now. I’ve always said that if they were as cheap as meat or if I didn’t have to worry about money, I wouldn’t mind being a vegetarian if I could eat those (and the chicken patty substitutes!) ---

Once I was really, really, _really_ hungry and found a veggie burger patty in the freezer. It was good enough to eat when really, really, _really_ hungry but that’s about it. And yes, I’m aware that the taste of that one burger is not indicative of the taste of all others. ---

I’m a real carnivore. “What would you like to go with your chicken?” “A pork chop.” However, I loved veggie burgers. I would even sometimes get one when eating out. I don’t think they taste at all like a meat burger. They are their own thing. I haven’t had one in years because I developed a gluten allergy, and the brand I like wasn’t gluten-free. Maybe I should check again, they may have changed that. ---

When one of my sons was a vegetarian I’d make vege burgers for everyone. My nephews are still vegetarians and I do the same when I visit my brother. I like to cook to feel like less of an imposition so it’s fun to go strictly vegetarian as abit of a challenge. ---

I don’t eat the burgers that are formed out of some kind of vegetable matter, but I will eat grilled portobello mushroom burgers. ---

Years ago when I tried the Seattle Sutton diet, which has no red meat in it, there were two different “burgers” in the rotation. One was a soy patty that was actually pretty tasty (though I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat such a thing again, I wouldn’t rule it out either), and one was a veggy burger which was thoroughly disgusting. Neither could be considered an acceptable substitue for beef. ---

I love Boca Burgers. But hell, I grew up in a mostly veggie household, which really was veggie for a few years, and he comes from an Asian household, so there are still days we have entirely vegetarian meals. I love meat, but I don’t need it. ---

They are fine and tasty, but the ones worth eating are not the ones that try to imitate meat. They are a different sandwich filling and worth eating as themselves. Anyone who tries to have one to satisfy a beef patty craving will be disappointed. (Our favourites are from a local butcher shop, which discovery gave me seven minutes of material on Sam the Vegan Butcher.) ---

Die-hard meat eater but I keep Boca Burgers in the freezer for the days when I am too tired to cook real food. Do I think I’m eating a hamburger? Absolutely not. But it’s o.k., especially since I doctor it with mayo, ketchup, avocado, lettuce, tomato and onion. And have a side of Tater tots. ---

I eat veggie burgers with some regularity. They are available on the grill menu at work. I can’t really tell the difference between a veggie and beef burger at work. This may be an indictment on the beef patties rather than the veggie patty. ---

I’m a meat eater who also likes veggies, tofu, beans, and all that stuff. I think veggie-burgers are gross. Burgers work well because of the contrast between a crisp bun and soft, juicy ground beef. Replace the beef with dry, sticky bean paste and you’d better have a big glass of something to wash the nastiness down with. For it to work, it’d have to be more like a bean salad mixture. I’d rather have an honest vegetarian meal than one where they removed meat and then added a half-assed substitute. ---

A few months ago I picked up a George Foreman grill and was looking for something quick and easy that could go right from the freezer to the grill. I ended up finding Spicy Chick’n Boca Burgers and I think Pizza burgers by Boca as well. So I usually have those in my freezer. Most everything else is meat based however. ---

I’ve tried lots of veggie burgers, including the one at subway. Yum is the last word i would ever use to describe them, i guess if you never ate meat it would taste like heaven but there really is zero comparison to the real thing.
