70 times is when I lost count. Eddie was my personal favorite. He totally owned the show during that number. I’d first encountered Meatloaf when he appeared on SNL. I quickly picked up his single, Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad, the next time I went to Harmony Hut. I was not a great fan of Bat Out of Hell, but I never denied the great talent of the man who was 2 parts rock and roller and 3 parts opera singer. Very sorry he’s gone.
You’re welcome, of course; always great to share a good story.
Was it an A&P? Ah, well; mea culpa. The conversion to a nightclub happened before I got to Tallahassee altho it was still the Musical Moon for a few years while I was there. I saw and worked many, many great shows in that venue.
Yeah, it was an A&P. I knew that because there was something that only A&P carried when I was a kid (cannot for the life of me remember what) and, every so often, Mom would take me there to get it.
It was a loooooong time ago but I’d swear it was '92 that my story took place. I wasn’t working there in '89 although I might have been in '90 (I left school in the summer of 1990). When I have access to my old pocket notebooks I can check for sure tho; for years I wrote down every gig and my hours in little 1-year pocket notebooks and I still have them.
ETA: that list is fun. The Ramones show in '87 was a helluva night for me. And I still have my 2 Live Crew shirt from the '91 show; I wore it a few months ago.
“Yeah, it was an A&P. I knew that because there was something that only A&P carried when I was a kid (cannot for the life of me remember what) and, every so often, Mom would take me there to get it.”
Was it coffee beans? because my parents would specifically go to the A&P for coffee beans.
I found this article where the Rolling Stone writer talked to Meat Loaf right after the death of Jim Steinman:
Eerie quote:
“After he died, his nurse, Mary Beth, left me a message saying how much he loved me. She said I was the one person he needed more than anyone else in his life. I don’t want to die, but I may die this year because of Jim. I’m always with him and he’s right here with me now. I’ve always been with Jim and Jim has always been with me.”
You got a cite for that? A little googling found that Meat Loaf and Trump became friends when the singer was on Celebrity Apprentice, but that went downhill after Meat Loaf suggested that Trump shouldn’t run for president.
Was sorry to hear this even though I have never been a big fan. I liked a few of his songs and probably have not heard some of the best. However, he had a unique and amazing voice. I did not know of his asthma, his wonderful personality or theatrical performances.
One of the weirdest Johnny Carson guest-lists: Yitzhak Perlman; Carol Burnett; and Meat Loaf. All sitting together on the couch while Johnny chatted with them. Can’t remember anything of the conversation but I was laughing all the way through it. Three giants in completely different fields.
