I’ll be there for a religious conference, but I can imagine a world where I would have time for dinner with Dopers if any are around. Or if anyone in the area knows of cheap rooming options, the conference is sugesting a hotel for $100 a night, which is a bit much for this college student. Also, there is public tranport in Boston, right? Currently I’m planning at showing up at the airport and taking a subway/bus to where ever I need to go. If this doesn’t qualify as MPSIMS, I don’t know what would. ---

And Boston hits back with a roundhouse right! But **Medea’s Child** ducks, and Boston begins to spin around crazily. **Medea’s Child** takes advantage of the opportunity, spinning Boston around and around and around and then stopping Boston, then, winding up, **Medea’s Child** plants a HUUUUUUUUUGE uppercut right on Boston’s cleft chin. The crowd goes WILD! Women are baring their breasts for beads! Men are watching! Pandemonium! Mass hysteria! But wait! Boston is steadying itself. It’s casting a wary eye toward **Medea’s Child** , who seems… she seems to be TAUNTING Boston, ladies and gentlemen! Yes, she’s egging on the elderly town. What’s that that Boston has behind its back! Oh my LORD! It’s a Tupperware container of baked beans! Boston hurls the beans at **Medea’s Child** , but she, with the catlike quickness of Sean Young pretending to be Catwoman, eludes the flying food! **Medea’s Child** hurls herself against the ropes, and runs at Boston! YEEEEEEEEEEhaw! Look at THAT, ladies and gentlemen! **Medea’s Child** has clotheslined Boston! Boston is down! Boston is down! There’s the ref with the count! “Er, ah, one… er, ah, two… er, ah… THREE!” And **Medea’s Child** is your new champion, ladies and gentlemen! **Medea’s Child** has won! ---

I’m going to skip, just for the moment, **dan** ’s rather creative visualization, and inject a few facts into the conversation. Do forgive me. Lodging: Very expensive in Boston, $100-a-night might be tough to beat. I’ve seen $70-$80 a night, but in places that weren’t very convenient. And that was a few years ago so the rates have probably gone up a bit since. I’ll keep my eyes open for you though, and if I spot any good deals, I’ll let you know. A lot of hotels are still offering some very good deals because of the slump in tourism, and I’ve found good rates in other cities by doing a web search. And I do remember seeing a youth hostel not too far from downtown. That could be worth checking if you don’t mind the accomodations. Transportation: Yes, we have it. Oldest subway in the country; there’s even a song about it, although not a very reassuring one. At the airport, there’s a shuttle bus that goes to all the terminals and the subway station. From there, the blue line gets you into downtown. The subway will probably take you almost anywhere you need to go. The lines are organized by color, and each train is either “inbound” or “outbound” from the center of the city. The green line splits into different branches on the west side of town. If you need to take one of these, look for the letter (B, C, D or E) over the windshield on the front of the train. (The green lines are trolleys, actually.) Once you’re in the city, stations are marked with a black T in a white circle. Maps, fares and such are [here](http://www.mbta.com/traveling_t/schedules_subway.asp). ---

Yeah- cheap lodging is very tough here, $100 is about the best you’re going to get if you need to be right in Boston/Cambridge. Out of curiousity, what hotel? Maybe try Priceline? I did this for my boyfriend’s birthday and got a good deal. The T should indeed be convenient, though. And I am totally up for meeting my first Doper and hanging out, if you’re interested. Obviously there are other Boston Dopers around as well, hopefully some will stop by soon… ---

Yea! A Boston Doper will actually meet me! As for the hotel, I’m not sure which one it is (I’m prepared for this trip, can’t you tell?) But its “right across the street” from the Christian Science Mother Church. Which is where I need to be for Saturday. So if $100 is about as good as its going to get, that’s probably what I’ll beg money from my folks to do. I’ll check into the youth hostel though. Thank you for actual info **Robot Arm**! I’ve heard the song, its the one with Charlie getting stuck on the MTA becuase he didn’t have an extra nickel to get off, right? “And did he ever return, no, he never returned, and his fate is still unlearned…” My dad would sing it with his guitar during his hippie flashback moments. Alas, Ill be in Florida those days, or Id love to meet you. Public transportation is decent, but avoid it during rush hour if at all possible (7-9, and about 4-8). Trains are packed, make for an unpleasant experience. Do you know what part of the city the church is in? Ill ask around about hotel fares near there, see if I can find you a deal. That’s on the green ‘E’ line, between the Prudential and Symphony stations, you can’t miss it. Nice spot, although it won’t be at its best in December. They drain the reflecting pool over the winter. It was a hit for the Kingston Trio in the 60’s, but was originally written as a campaign song for a candidate for mayor of Boston in 1948. The candidate went on to obscurity, but the song is famous. ---

I’d love to pop down for an evening. I haven’t been to Boston in a while. So, which night are we talking about dinner? I may have a commitment on the evening of the 7th, but I’m not sure yet. Haven’t nailed down exact timing yet. I think (hehehe) that I’ll be flying in late on the 6th, the conference is during the day on Saturday, and then Sunday I might be able to do a lunch thing before my flight back. All depending on flight times, when the conference gets out and such. Honestly I was thinking of the seventh. Proving again that I have the world’s best timing. (This is doubly true for this weekend, One of my good friends I see 2-3 times a year is coming to Pittsbugrh that weekend. I’ll miss him, of course. Way to go me.) ---

Lunch on the 8th should work for me. I work on Sundays mere blocks from the Mother church. Great neighborhood for restaurants. And in that neighborhood, $100 is a steal. I may be able to do a dinner or breakfast on the Saturday. And by breakfast I usually mean a bagel and huge amounts of coffee. But then again, everytime I’ve tried to do a dopefest my schedule gets all flummoxed and I can’t attend. I’m cursed. ---

Wee! I have plane tickets! I arrive in the great world of Boston, Mass. on December 6 at 5:42 pm courtesy of USAir flight 476. I have to be back at the airport on Sunday, December 8 at oh…5:30pm or so for my 7 pm flight back here. Lunch on Sunday? (the 8th) noonish at somewhere fun? ---

As I noted above, lunch on the 8th (Sunday) works for me. I’m not that familiar with that area, so I have no real suggestions for the place. I think Marché might be vaguely nearby, and I always enjoy that, but I’m sure **Motorgirl** will have lots of suggestions as she knows the area better. ---
