Medium/Large Cities Without Horrible Traffic?

I would much rather drive in NYC than in Austin, Texas. (Yes, I have driven in both.) Austonians tend to be younger (its basically a college town) and the cities infrastructure was not designed for as many people as it has. There is only a north/south highway and no real highway that connects eas/west in any convenient way in the city thus all the inhabitants either rush onto the highway (from the many years of Texas living, I have never been to Austin without seeing at least two wrecks on the freeway at any given time of the day or night…and usually more than three cars involved) or crowd onto one of the two thru-town streets that can actually hold a modicum of traffic (there aren’t many). Austin is even worse to drive in than NYC. I do have to say now that I live in DC eventhough the traffic is heavy, you can pretty much get around fairly easy unless you live off in Virginia and have to do the commute. The Springfield interchange in the DC suburb has been given AAA’s worst traffic spot many many years in a row and after driving through it, one understands why.

Des Moines traffic is ok…it’s the drivers who suck ass.
