Yeah, they kept it as a pet, after it was obvious it wasn’t going to eat them. How did they know that in advance? And don’t tell me that the spiky-haired hero told them as a grownup, when he left out telling them about everything else (evidently).
It’s not that a T. Rex is weird – as you say, they have weirder things for breakfast. But it might decide to have them for breakfast.
