Will never happen. Opposition to Clinton continued despite NAFTA, Operation Infinite Reach and the Glass-Steagall repeal. Any attempt by Democrats to be conciliatory and bipartisan will just result in the opposition lurching further right. The Democrats need to identify their base, cut their losses with those that’ll never be part of it and govern as such. Their one hope is that the resultant prosperity gains slightly more popular acceptance.

I just don’t get this UN meme. Surely Democrats and Republicans can agree that the UN is at best an inept organization that issues empty threats and sometimes hands out aid and…takes over America by military force?

Hey, maybe someone can help eradicate my ignorance here. Setting aside the logistics of where all these UN troops are supposed to come from, and who’s going to pay for their transport, food, etc, just how would a US president hand executive power over to the UN, anyway? Seems like, at the very least, the agreement of Congress would be required. In any event, I can’t imagine an executive order would have the required degree of clout to carry out such a thing.

You think you’re joking? I recall back in the late '70s or early '80s, hearing on the radio a Florida state legislator making a floor speech about how adding kilometer-distances to the highway signs was a Communist plot to facilitate Soviet troop movements in an invasion – those Russians don’t know from miles, you see, so they’ll need to be able to read how many kilometers they are from Tallahasee when they head there to take away our rights and freedom. (I also heard all the other legislators laughing at him, that’s something, but, **still**. . .)

Given that the UN cannot organize a couple of thousand peacekeepers and have them operate with any kind of success, I have no idea how the disparate nations of the UN would be able to organize a million or more troops to occupy this country.
Well, besides the entire batshit insane idea of WHY anyone would try to occupy the United States or WHY anyone here would be in on the plan and think it a good idea that would actually do or resolve anything we can’t do or resolve on our own.

Even worse, I looked at the numbers.
Even if they were to somehow come up with ONE MILLION Russians, Chinese, Nigerians, Indians, etc to occupy America, that would be 1 per 320 citizens. If it was roughly proportioned by population, that would mean roughly 15,000 troops to occupy Minnesota, home to 5 million people (over 87,000 square miles). I have to believe that 15,000 troops trying to control this state against our will would be seriously chewed within a week and within a month, cease to exist as an occupying force.
And we’re not even some place like Texas.
