I don’t se any evidence that Oksana is a gold-digger. She does seem to have an attaction to wealthy, famous men, but I don’t think that’s the same thing as being a gold-digger, really. She is, clearly, a home-wrecker, given that she pursued a relationship with a man who was known to be married. Of course, Mel was more culpable in this than she was, given that the home they wrecked was _his_ home. Furthermore, I’d give her a pass on the home-wrecking anyway, since it appears she was actually doing a favor to the woman whose home she helped wreck. Clearly, Robyn is a good deal better off without that crazy fucker. ---

There’s nothing very abstract about it. If you heard a story about a particular store being robbed at gunpoint, and then heard a bunch of other people complaining forcefully and angrily about how obvious it was that that store had been cheating its customers, you’d think that was connected to the fact that the store was robbed. If one of them then said “I don’t think there’s anything ethically wrong with overpricing merchandise, mind,” you’d just be confused. Why did they bring it up, then? Especially if they’d never heard of the store before it got robbed? In theory, it’s possible that these are two completely unrelated phenomena in those people’s minds, and that it just so happens that the story about the violence inspired little zephyrs of thought that led to a stimulating intellectual conversation about the victim’s moral character that just so happens to exactly parallel your typical victim-blaming approach that just so happens to always accompany stories of domestic abuse, but if you aren’t a stupid person that isn’t what you’ll bet your lunch money on. If the gold-digging is really completely unrelated to the abuse, why are so many people talking about it when the only actual news is about the abuse? How did that happen? Isn’t there anything else about this woman worth speculating about for no reason at all that has anything to do with the fact that there’s a tape of her being abused? Again, sure, it’s possible that a person who wants to focus on her motivations in the relationship has no desire to mitigate the extent of the wrong done to her, but it sure doesn’t seem likely. ---
